Monday, February 28, 2011 12:55:03 AM @handys003 There were worries that it would go up to that sort of level, but it's topped out and will probably remain stable for years. Petrol and diesel are extremely expensive in nearly all of Europe as well as in the UK, mainly because governments tax it, tax it and tax it some more. About 70% of the retail price in the UK is tax and that isn't unique. So if anyone in the USA is looking at the fuel efficiency figures for European cars (60+ mpg is common) and wondering why they're so much higher than USA cars, it's because they have to be. Few people here have USA-style trucks. Partly because they have crappy mpg and partly because there's very little use for them. It's only businesses that need to haul lots of stuff about and they mostly use vans. There's no real market for pickup trucks. |

Sunday, February 27, 2011 11:24:43 PM @Angilion Yes Angilion it's freaking insane. There was a report on "Drudge" that it was up toward equal $9.00 a gallon. Hope you don'thave a truck. I'm thinking of raising draft horses for cart pulling for short trips. Go back to the old plantation days. It's cheaper for me that way.

Sunday, February 27, 2011 9:41:26 PM Site for the first study, as requested by Samuelsoon I could provide sites for the others, but I don't see the relevance. |

Sunday, February 27, 2011 9:36:48 PM Ain't that the truth. Freaking almost $4.50 a gallon over here in Hawaii. In the UK, the average price for petrol today is 122.9p per litre. Using the current exchange rate, that's $7.88 per USA gallon. Seriously, it's that expensive over here. |

Sunday, February 27, 2011 9:27:14 PM Samuelsoon: Sadly for you, they do exist. For example, the study done by the Transport Research Laboratory in the UK or the study done by INRETS (the French National Institute for Transport and Safety Research). You are aware that cannabis has an effect on a person, right? |

Sunday, February 27, 2011 8:21:47 PM @Angilion It would be great if you could actually site any of those studies you mentioned, but sadly they don't exist. A quick google search later... |

Sunday, February 27, 2011 3:14:21 PM you mean drunk college students? its easy to drive stoned but i would never drive drunk People who drive while drunk think it's easy too. There have been quite a few experiments on the degree to which cannabis use affects driving ability. It's not at all difficult to find volunteers for the trials. As well as the fact that many cannabis users think it's a good idea to do the testing, they're given free top quality cannabis, completely legal, no worries. The results are clear - even when driving more slowly and as carefully as they can because it's a trial of their driving ability and they're being very closely watched and monitored, people who are stoned still drive quite a bit worse than they do when they're not stoned and driving faster. It doesn't have as much of an effect on driving as being drunk does, but it does have an effect and it's easy to be stoned enough to be affected more than a person above the legal driving limit for |

Sunday, February 27, 2011 3:02:05 PM If pot were legalized a nightly fare would be financially possible. A mini buss stopping by all the big munch places. could leave the passengers with a pick up time, while delivering more munchers. Just sayin Timing would complicate things. Customers wouldn't all want to go at the same time (and it would cause delays at the food places if they did). Maybe run it as a standard bus service, with fixed times. Alternatively, the food shops could run their own minibus services. That might be financially viable for places that have a large number of potential customers in a small area, like in this case. |

Sunday, February 27, 2011 2:55:42 PM They should be fined $5 a trip for not bothering to learn English even to a level appropriate for a young child. Even if English is a foreign language to them, it would be trivial to learn it better than that. You don't make such stupid fundamental mistakes by accident and not notice them. You do it because you don't give a damn about English. That's why it pisses me off. A 5 year old of average intelligence could learn the correct use of apostrophes in an hour. An adult should be able to do so in less than a minute. The rules for almost all cases are extremely simple. |
