at that range most of the gas pressure from the blank must have missed, even a blank at that range can be really nasty, the fact that he was'nt bleeding after that proves it just came close....they need a shot of the beret that got blown off...bet theres some holes in it... |

Number43, actually Gord is half-right.
Though the discharge was from the soldier behind him, the cause was still a slam fire. Evident through the fact that the discharge was timed perfectly with the bolts closing in unison. It is a common problem in cheaper AK's, due most likely to an incorrectly installed or loose firing pin. It is also extremely prevalent in AK's that people try to make full auto by polishing the trigger group, which is fun because they slam fire and don't stop until they run out of ammo.
They are being cycled manually because most blanks don't throw out enough pressure to fully force the gas piston (and thus the bolt) for enough back to extract the previous and cycle the next round.

That was disappointing. I was promised crapping but the guy barely flinched. If I hear a gun go off behind me and my hat flew off I'd have thought for sure I was dead. |

poo... what a time to have negligent discharge...
I'd guess blanks and it's the wadding that's shot the other guy's hat off, but can't really tell as no blank firing attachments on the weapons - but none are needed when manually re-c ocking a weapon.....but I'd guess them as it's not normal to use live rounds on an honour guard duty.

Nice try. The dude that had his hat blown off...his gun never fired. It was the guy behind him, who's hands you can't see. So there's no way of telling if the shooter jumped the trigger or had a malfunction. And I'd say it's safe to say they were using blanks, as they were firing directly into the air and nobody called a cease fire after the mishap. |

It's called a slam-fire. It was the AK-47 that the man who got his hat blown off was holding. He slammed the bolt forward resulting in the premature fire. It means his bolt and chamber need inspected, and or, replaced. There is no way of telling if it was a blank or not from this video. |
