Monday, February 28, 2011 2:05:40 AM As the guy said, it's a pulse engine. Similar to the ones used on German V1's. Extremely simple device. They actually used it on a small plane, instead of its propeller. |

Saturday, February 26, 2011 5:25:09 AM Brilliant... until metal fatigue kicks in and the damn thing explodes. Does it still count as an air intake when flames are shooting out of it? |

Friday, February 25, 2011 4:54:20 PM Its amazing that something like this was groundbreaking 90 something years ago Less than that. The first working jet engines were built in the late 1930s. Engines, plural, because it was invented independently by two different people at about the same time (one in England, one in Germany). |

Friday, February 25, 2011 4:24:27 PM Its amazing that something like this was groundbreaking 90 something years ago, and now we can make it in a garage with some mechanical training (although I don't know exactly how smart/trianed these guys are) |

Friday, February 25, 2011 3:08:19 PM @EntrE; Yes, it is a jet engine. It is a valveless pulse jet. I buit one out of exhaust tubing for my senoir project in high school. One that size probably delivers around 15lbs of thrust. It is hot, but not as hot as it looks in the video. When metal heats up, it creates infrared light (as well as light in the spectrum we see), which is seen by the camera. In all reality, they barely glow, the most you can see in person is a little red around the forward part if the expansion chamber. |
