Scary, it makes me want to delete every account I've ever had but they did say phone calls and other stuff.

And then there are those who say her resignation is admission of fault. HELL NO! I would have done the same thing. I would have responded with, "If resigning or suspension are my only 2 options, then I quit. I don't want to work under unreasonable high-and-mighty bastards, and you'll be hearing from my lawyer for this injustice."

Sorry for the double-post, but this sort of abuse just ROYALLY pisses me off.

I can't believe some of the morons who commented on that article. "Oh, she was stupid for having a FB account in the first place. You should never ever give out truthful information about yourself on the internet ever."

I'm sorry, are you drating kidding me? Are these the same people who give out false information when they decide purchase anything online too? I bet they personally deliver all of their utility bills too. Bullpoo. Faulting her under that kind of logic is COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.

As she said, she had her privacy settings on (which should narrow down who it was that "turned her in"), she was being responsible about it. You should not have your job threatened for anything you do that's LEGAL.

What's next? Teachers can't get pregnant because it promotes teen pregnancy? Nah, I think that would make a stronger case.

Couldn't she just not post that picture? I find people who think it's necessary to post picture of them sporting their alcohol on facebook retarded.

GA is a right to work state. They don't allow teacher unions.

Actually this article didn't tell the entire story. Another teacher who was friends with her on facebook wrote the letter to the principal posing as a concerned parent.

Mother is 28, father 36. The kid is 10.
They were probably 18-19 and 25-26 when they had him, lol 18 year old mother = win.

thank the mentality of the ACLU that says one single person in town offended that there is a nativity scene on public property it must be removed to satisfy the one. The majority must conform to the one.

By the same token, she only needed one person to be offended and she was removed.

That tears it! I am going to withdraw into the '80's when none of this poo existed, and employeers had no say about anything you did away from work. Big Brother grows stronger every day, and the internet is his steroids.

Ha! I had a teacher who brought a whiskey bottle to every lecture! Sure, it was filled with apple juice, but you definitely couldn't tell just by looking. ^^

This is ridiculous. Although she does deserve some sort of punishment for drinking Carlsberg, ie "Pishwater".

That is sad. The only thing I think should happen is she should be told to remove any pupil or parent from her friends list. To me they have no business being part of her personal life anyway.
Ridiculous sums it up.

I read, "Payne was told a parent of one of her students called to complain," and I'm thinking, one of these cranky old women has too much time on her hands.

I'm surprised that she was let go in such a manner. My GF is a California teacher and the teacher unions are VERY powerful. One of the things they are very protective of are disciplinary actions and the due process required. Like a union rep MUST be present, any and all complaints are to be formally documented and on and on. A principal just can't blackmail you into quitting.

Teachers are in charge of children for the majority of the day and are therefore more vunerable to false or distorted claims by both children and parents. Things do happen, obviously, but sometimes they don't (like in this case).

Well if she's in a state that does the At Will employment, they don't need a reason to fire her. They could have picked what they deem a legit reason or just no reason.

If this happened to me, I'm pretty sure I would do two things:

A) Ask the boss where he got the information, considering that all my stuff is set to friends only, then ask him if his "source" is really reliable.

B) Tell him to go f*ck himself if he presses the issue. I put in my goddamn hours as your slave, I expect my freedom during my private time. I also expect to be able to share pictures and the like with friends without having to huddle over them like a group of heroin addicts in an alleyway. If it doesn't affect the quality of my work, there's no problem, and if there is, I don't need this job that badly. I'm sure I can find another that will appreciate my talents without invading on my personal life.
