If this is qualified as unacceptable punishment could you please tell me from your experience and truthfully a punishment that works for you because believe it or not time outs and taking toys away does not work everyone. Neither does ignoring it. P.s. she has 6 kids and they let her adopt this boy so I think she knows what she is doing. P.S.S she isn't the one who taped it tho she did put it up on the web her dumb ass mistake. |

Neither do many adults. Yet we still don't use physical punishment against them.
Shall we beat the mentally-handicapped too? They too often lack the developed faculties or reasoning of adults.
Why is violence only allowed, in your eyes, when it's against the most vulnerable members of our society: the children?
They should be the LEAST acceptable to use violence against, not the most.
Forced cold showers, forced ingestion of hot sauce, spanking, beating, these are all acts of violence that would land you in prison if you did any of them to an unconsenting adult. Yet do it to an unconsenting child, and it's perfectly fine? Right... |

spanking would be "child's play" (did you see what i did there?) compared to the psychological torture this kid is getting. if you didn't see it, you should watch the video again. |

ericka225- Thank you for your comment. It's ridiculous that parents aren't allowed to be parents anymore. There needs to be physical punishment for kids these age because, as someone else said, they don't have the reasoning abilities that adults do. |

oh what the hell! People used to wash mouths out with soap. And a cold shower?! That's "cruel and unusual" it's not like she left him in there for hours. Hot sauce isn't as bad as Castor oil or whatever they used to use. I call bull crap! I would say that Americans need to mind their damn business, but since she video taped it she was asking for this attention, but still. This is not abusive IMO. |

reacting to your own anger and anxiety? LOL when I spank my kid it's not because I'm angry or anxious. It's because she shouldn't be doing stupid stuff and a good grade a ass whoopin is needed to prevent future incidents. Time outs only work for kids with some sort of mental issue. |

Wtf lady! Seriously, how do nuts like this woman get to adopt children? This pisses me off soooo much. There are thousands of American families out there who would gladly adopt that little boy and take good care of him but now he's stuck with this witch. Hell I'm only 20 and I would gladly take care of this child rather than know he's under that woman's care. |

This is crap. A child at that age does not have the developed faculties or reasoning of an adult - they cannot be reasoned with as an adult can, nor do they have a fully developed sense of right or wrong - hence, they generally are not punished as adults are with criminal charges until the age of 14 (the generally accepted age of a sense of moral right and wrong having fully developed). |

Yeah well, my GF would be punished with hot peppers and no food and punches to the head. The police didn't do jack, and her folks beat her for calling them. Moral of the story? Stuff rarely gets fixed when it comes to child abuse. |

Now my daughter is in college and times have changed since I last had to discipline her.
Here is my honest question - what is an "acceptable" punishment for a child these days?
When I grew up, it was spanking - note, not abuse - but spanking. That suddently became child abuse and other, alternative methods were found (such as this) to replace it.
Now these are being called abuse - what is acceptable? I do believe that some sort of negative reinforcement needs to be used with a child in order for them to learn at this age, but what do you do?
And no, I don't agree with this woman - I do not think she was right in her handling of the siutation (as ericka225 said, a bit excessive and out of anger) - but what would be acceptable?
Will it get to the point that there is no discipline that is not considered abuse? |

What, is the differance between putting soap in a kid's mouth when they say a bad word, and Hot sauce when they lie?? Hell, At least hot sauce is non-toxic and edible..However, soap is not, and can be very toxic..I remember my parents or who ever baby sat me, when I acted up, I got a ass whoopin with a belt, or I had to choose my own switch from a weeping willow tree out back,when I said a dirty word,talked back, or lied. I either got my mouth washed out with Dawn dish soap or stuff taken away..I was punished for being in the wrong, and yes I cried, screamed and hated the world when I was punished,My parents were being Parents, which is the problem with today's youth and why we have so many ass hole kids that don't wanna listen, and just do what the hell they want..with mommy in the corner crying about what she did so wrong..I don't however agree with the cold shower...and there is a fine line between abuse and punishment... |

um huny the difference between hot sauce and beating your child is the worst case is it might burn for a few minutes. I'm not saying she should use the hottest sauce out there. However if you beat your child hard enough.. they can leave bruises for days or even break bones. So ya a little hot sauce will only burn for a little bit. And don't tell me that children are not used to hot sauce like adults.. because why do i see plenty of children eating it with their food. O and the shower was a bit excessive i dont realy think he deserved 2 punishments but hey her call.. he wasn't in it for an hr he was under for like a minute damn i'm sure you have taken a cold shower once in your life it isn't pleasant but it wont kill you. If you can find a form of discipline that doesn't involve something like this then fine more power too ya, but don't turn your nose up at other parents if you are the one who lets your child do and say what ever they want. |
