Thursday, February 17, 2011 1:08:19 PM The crazy thing is.. those temperatures are in Celsius! That's 155 and 181 degrees below zero. Keep in mind that liquid nitrogen is around 300 degree's below 0. Almost 2/3 the way there. |

Thursday, January 27, 2011 8:56:58 PM Any time it's below like 60F I do my best to not leave the house. That and if it's raining. It can't get hot enough though |

Thursday, January 27, 2011 5:12:54 AM It's not because of the weather that I'm glad I don't live in Canada. It's the Canadians. |

Wednesday, January 26, 2011 8:26:50 PM Schools set that temperature range so that they never close. Unless you go to a rural school. They are only open as long as the buses are running. |

Wednesday, January 26, 2011 8:25:20 PM Thanks to @swebb for THIS LINK to an "old vs new" windchill chart, eh? -83 under the old system would be around -55 with the new. That seems reasonable! Winnipeg: Friday: high of +2C (yay! first time over freezing since November!) High Sunday? -21C, (that's a -23C swing in 2 days folks!) |

Wednesday, January 26, 2011 7:18:27 PM Temperatures in Alberta are similar to what Riftsong says. In Calgary we get Chinooks every once and a while that make it go to around -10 to 0 C, but then shortly later gets back down to -20 or -30. Usually for a few days a year we get down to -40. Summers range from 15-25 most of the time. |

Wednesday, January 26, 2011 6:43:51 PM It's pretty routine to get down to -40C where I live, but there is usually very little wind when it gets that cold so the windchill only adds at most 10 degrees. The schools never close here because of the cold although anything colder than -40 the buses don't run (they run on propane and can't start in that kind of cold) but most parents just drive their kids in that case if it's too far to walk. It's not much fun working in that kind of cold, but if you dress properly and take breaks every couple of hours it isn't that bad really. |

Wednesday, January 26, 2011 6:01:36 PM Windchill included can take off like 20 degrees on a really windy day. But beyond that (in Celcius, in Saskatchewan): 40 degrees = sweet jesus the sun is trying to kill us 30 = find the nearest body of water and stay in it all day 20 = utterly boring 10 = hell, wear shorts, this is Canada 0 = awesome out -10 = a bit chilly, sure -20 = hey look its winter, get some mittens -30 = put on a goddamn scarf and shut up -40 = okay now its legitimately cold -50 = winter is pissed The best part of living so far from an ocean is the 90 degree temperature range. |
