Loosing your job would be something that gets you out of a rut. Unless, you've lost your job and you get into a rut because you've been unemployed for so long that you find it boring. Also, friends going away doesn't have much to do with it. A rut is just when you're bored of you daily routine. A routine that you've repeated so many times that the ground where you walk everyday gets withered and eroded so much by your constant treading of it that it becomes a rut. |

A rut is not failing at something your normally good at. When you get into a rut it's like everything is boring. Something isn't right. Maybe you're depressed. You've maybe lost your job, or the job you have is boring. You friends go away and you feel sorry for yourself. All of those make you feel you're in a rut. Then one day it just gets better.
Or not, and you kill yourself. |
