Tuesday, September 21, 2004 9:24:44 PM Its probably how you got the computer started. Give it a few quick cranks....hope the engine catches....and we're off!Alright, now what special person knows the scientific innovation that made this model completely obselete? |

Tuesday, September 21, 2004 6:59:47 PM Maybe it wasn't a racing game, but some kind of computerized driver's training course they were invisioning. Could have even been a bus driving simulator. That makes sense as busses have big steering wheels. |

Tuesday, September 21, 2004 5:41:34 PM Plus, a steering wheel that big for a racing game would be kind of impractical don't you think? |

Tuesday, September 21, 2004 5:39:51 PM Buddy, video games were not even conceived of until the 1970's when the first video game, Pong, was introduced. I doubt that in the 50's anyone envisioned that one would be able to play games on a computer. A more likely situation is that the wheel is there to in some way activate the vacuum tubes that were used to run the computer. Vacuum tubes were a major reason why the computers were so big. You need hundreds of them in a top-of-the-line computer in the late 40's and early 50's. To put that in perspective, they would have need hundreds of thousands of tubes to even come close to today's BASIC computers let alone our top-of-the-line machines. |
