Friday, January 21, 2011 11:15:00 AM Scuba on trimix uses helium (also 2 other gases :^). That's why they sound funny on comms. |

Friday, January 21, 2011 11:12:57 AM To all those who seem to be worried that helium would remain in your lungs if you were upside down I would remind you that we breath in and out. Your lungs are not at the mercy of gravity. In fact CO2 makes up a lot of what we exhale and is heavier than air. |

Friday, January 21, 2011 10:43:43 AM Think it had anything to do with the actual balloon? That type never struck me as particularly safe to suck the helium out of. |

Friday, January 21, 2011 10:16:29 AM Its perfectly safe. You can't actually kill yourself doing this. Without oxygen you will simply pass out like she did well before you suffocate. Once passed out your lungs continue to operate just like when your sleeping and the helium will be replaced with oxygen. Now if you did this, passed out and fell into a pool then you would have a problem. |

Friday, January 21, 2011 9:50:52 AM They really need to outlaw this stuff, it's obviously a blight on society and a danger to our children. Plus it looks like a lot of fun. |

Friday, January 21, 2011 9:45:02 AM When you breath in Helium, it replaces the gas in your lungs (duh). That means that you have less Oxygen, because the Helium is there. Do that enough, and you won't have enough room for Oxygen, and bam, you pass out. Inhale enough of it, quickly enough, and you can actually suffocate. But, as long as you're not upside down, you'll be OK, as the Helium eventually rises out of your system, and the Oxygen gets it's spot back. |

Friday, January 21, 2011 9:41:20 AM Damn you morons at IAB. That isn't called overdosing, she just blacked out. I once saw this happen to a guy that unzipped a float too quickly at a parade. He stood right in front of the giant zipper and fell directly backwards onto his ass lol. |

Friday, January 21, 2011 8:34:14 AM It's not overdosing, it's just that helium displaces the oxygen in your lungs, leading to passing out. |

Friday, January 21, 2011 8:33:52 AM lmao Helium is a noble gas. It can't really chemically react with anything, so it goes in, then leaves. Helium doesn't stay in your system. It's that other stuff they lace it with you need to be worried about. ;) |

Friday, January 21, 2011 8:08:14 AM I did that at my sister's wedding. I was 11. I quickly moved on to harder things. Helium is the new gateway drug. |

Friday, January 21, 2011 8:07:29 AM I did that once! I was drunk and pretty self-destructive when I was in the Navy. Decided to huff some of that air-duster sh-t, and passed out. Haven't done it since...not my brightest moment. |
