This isn't a product placement heavy scene. It's 2 minutes of the hour and a half long advertisement vomit. It was done intentionally, much like Talladega Nights, The Tale of Ricky Bobby, but less obviously. |

Product placement can go both ways. When it happens, IMO it can be either unnoticed or fit the continuity of the story or it can seem deliberate and thus stand out like an AD - which in turn makes the movie suck. When you do this it's almost always a detriment.
... the way to make it work is to only use it when the plot asks for it. It would be pretty hard to make movies set in modern, commercial times without *any* logos or such. |

Also when you go to the theater you have to sit through 20 minutes of commercials.
I pay 12 bucks to see a crappy movie and watch commercials.

My favorite that they didn't have in here; Iron Man 2. Pepper Potts, the new CEO (or whatever) of a company that puts out some of the most technologically advanced stuff is seen using an LG enV2 or 3. Lol, riggghhttt. |

Honestly, product placement can help immersion.
However, it can be annoying when it is perceived as blatant advertisement. |

One bit of product placement that really annoyed me was in Santa Clause 3 (yeah, I know) where they had a 'red deer' energy drink. The machine supplying red deer featured prominently in the film, and the drink was branded in the same way as Red Bull.
Message: even Santa drinks Red Bull, so you can too kids! |
