That was cool. I think that those were some very interesting statistics and I loved it.

There are a lot of empty foreclosed homes in my town. Seems like there is plenty of room.

Give each family a 0.25 acre lot, add another 20% for roads etc. and assume an average family size of 4. You would need ~820,000 square miles of land. That's about the same as Texas (~269,000) and Alaska (~663,000) put together. Not sure if I have a point but an interesting calculation to me.

Dude, I'm totally buying National Geographic now. :)

And humans are still not the largest biomass on earth. That would be the bacteria!

With ToshSucksO's logic, we should kill ToshSucksO. His house burned 30-39 years ago.

ToshSucksO and Samsquanch, congratulations you are today's winners of 'douchebag of the day' award. That was much harsher but I toned it down just for you.

Eugenics is the only way. But it's too "unethical".

Most people would get mad about this, but we really need to kill the majority of people living in third world countries. We could then go in and turn that space into useable living space/resource gathering space and eventually people will start living and thriving in there.

Think of it this way, what's easier: 1) Fixing up a house that was burn to the ground or 2) Removing the crumbles and replacing it with all new house

I'm glad for not renewing my subscription now ... a year long series may get a little tedious.

We humans will die off, the earth will recycle itself and life will begin again. Don't be so naive to think we're gonna be ok with 7 billion and counting.

"We are not even close to using up the earth's resources yet."

Ha! Please, educate yourself, ask a geologist about what we're doing to the earth...

Well said, auburnjunky. Necessity is the mother of invention. We are not even close to using up the earth's resources yet.

"The earth will tend to huge metropolises, factory zones, vast monoculture fields, and dead oceans."

Like I said before. About 2% of the Earth is developed, and about 2% of that is urbanized. That includes oceans.

We can irrigate the deserts. There is a huge aquifer under the Sahara. They just recently found it. If push came to shove, and we HAD to spend the money, they could find a way to grow food there.

Synthetic foods. Bio-domes. Ocean water purifiers. There are ways to sustain us that we haven't explored, because we don't need to, but if the reason arose, they would happen, and we would be fine.
