Sunday, January 09, 2011 9:58:33 AM I didn't say that creabhain. All I was saying is that giving a kid a reasonable physical response when they misbehave will give them a moment of pause next time. |

Sunday, January 09, 2011 7:00:33 AM "Parent gives child stern talking to AND pops his ass with a belt/paddle = Child says "poo I better not piss off parent anymore." [Sarcasm]So, a child is struck once and NEVER misbehaves again. Wow, it's magic. [/Sarcasm] |

Saturday, January 08, 2011 11:09:41 PM A) Parent gives child stern talking to = Child says "Blah blah blah hurry up and finish while I tune you out and learn nothing." B) Parent gives child stern talking to AND pops his ass with a belt/paddle = Child says "poo I better not piss off parent anymore." |

Saturday, January 08, 2011 10:26:14 PM hey how you disipline your kid is how you disipline your kid but i dont think it was very wise of him or appropriate to video tape that and put it on the internet. kids have been taken away from their parents by child protective survices for much less. |

Saturday, January 08, 2011 8:51:36 PM Not appropriate. At all. The idea is humorous, sure, but this is not okay in the slightest. |

Saturday, January 08, 2011 2:16:31 PM @Samsquanch As I predicted the old "Slap them or else they only get a stern talking to" line. I believe in effective punishment. You never need to actually hit if you understand what you're doing. Slapping is easy to do and requires no real work on your part. It doesn't work and does more harm than good. |

Saturday, January 08, 2011 7:57:07 AM I was spanked as a child. Hated it then. Hate it now. Fans of spanking always offer no disipline as the alternative to violence. Control your kids just don't use pain to do it. Bwa-haha! Straight from the mouths of a bleeding-heart liberal. I was spanked as a child, often as a first resort; last resort was often the belt. We spank our children, but only when the need arises, like when they refuse to listen to us. Otherwise, we go through all other motions to get them to obey us (take away privileges, cool down time, restitution to the other party involved, etc). Eventually, they learn that there's an escalation to their bad behaviour, and they respond accordingly. So, what? We want these kids to grow up thinking they can do what they want, and they'll just get a stern talking to? Rob a store, and get told, "That was wrong, Billy." Tell their boss to F-off, and get, "Please don't say that." |

Friday, January 07, 2011 11:11:59 PM Oh and no. I wasn't around then. My opinion is based on what I've been told. What I've read, and so forth. |

Friday, January 07, 2011 11:11:06 PM @musoko: Things were probably best, from a social standpoint, shortly after WWII up until the early 60's. Yes, things are great now, with the freedom of information. I am all for it, but as a society, we are moving forward in some areas, and moving backwards in some as well. |

Friday, January 07, 2011 9:14:12 PM @auburnjunky So if things aren't the best they've ever been now, when were things the best? Just a wild stab in the dark...where they when you were a kid? When prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders? (And sunscreen...don't forget the sunscreen). |

Friday, January 07, 2011 4:11:43 PM Also check this from the U.S. Department of Justice: Bureau of Justice Report Basically auburnjunky is talking out his ass and doesn't check facts. There is no money to be made if cable news reports that everything is fine and everyone is doing great. They have to make you scared to increase their ratings. Unfortunately, people like auburnjunky swallow what they're given without question. What is worse is that they then come here and try to convince other people to swallow it as well. |
