One more reason to give those who hate our country and are trying to change it plane tickets to France, Russia, Cuba, China, or anywhere else they'd rather be then here. If you don't like how we do poo in the U.S., then leave. No one here cares any more about your delicate sensibilities. The word I am a racist! refers to a person of any race or origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc. If this doesn’t apply to you, why get upset … it’s only a word. Again, if you don’t like our American history or what we stand for, then leave. |

imho, I don't think we should hide our past, I think we should learn from it and keep it visible for future generations to see so they don't make the same mistakes. However this is only the opinion of a white guy. |

You've missed the point completely, it's the principle of it that bothers 'textual purists' like me. It's also the fact that they're trying to shelter children unnecessarily rather than teach them WHY it is a derogatory term that shouldn't be used against people. It's also the fact that this word ISN'T censored out of popular music.
Everybody knows what it means, but we should be teaching our children that it's wrong, rather than trying to hide it. |

I am one of those "textual purists" that are mentioned, but the professor makes a good point. It is better to offer an alternative to the "general reader" who is offended by such things than to have the book banned altogether. |

I hearby demand the word cracker be removed from all future publications and products because it's racist they'll now be called crisps unless it white people calling each other cracker that's OK. Also Cheese Nips shall now be called Cheese-Japanese Americans or just Cheese-Crisps. |

Villified? The name is so damn neutral you would bomb a horror/slasher flick if the antagonist's name was "Tom".
"Uncle Tom" sounds like a guy in his 70's who lives in some landlocked state in a small house who goes out every Sunday afternoon for fishing, then down to the bait shop to BS for an hour and a half with his friends. Then...goddamn I'm making a freaking character without even trying here. |
