I actually find religion to be depressing and a motivation killer. I am the result of millions of years of work and progress of not only man-kind but of physical laws. The universe is set up in such a way that not only is my life possible, but the very atoms that make up everything work towards it.
That is more empowering than any religion, or at least to me. |

This guy is a Christian waiting to happen. When God touches him he will be convinced and it will be all over. Just like all of you. you sit there high and mighty and full of pride thinking about how smart you are.That would be all over as soon as God touched you. Don't think you don't believe because you are smart. the truth is, you do not believe because God has not touched you (hopefully) Yet.

i will regard you as a crazy person and leave you to natural selection. a slow and steady process that takes thousands of years. modern man has just been around for a few houndred, so unfortunatly i can't expect it any soon. |

I'd say I'm not spiritual too but I have those moments in place too. But I don't think it's spiritual, I think it's just loving life, looking at beauty and appreciating what you have. I think about this often but it's what I would call spiritual |

"Spiritual" is a useless word. It can means absolutely anything you want it to from devout fundamentalism to hippie New Age bullsh*t to nihilism. The point of a word is to convey information, when a word is as ambiguous as "spiritual" it doesn't convey anything.
I agree with most of what he said, but he really needs to develop a more concise vocabulary to describe his existential beliefs. |

The last thing this world needs is an omnipotent being going around touching people. It goes against the idea of free will. I mean, I imagine in your concept of paradise none of us have a choice in whether God touches us or not, and your heaven is, in fact slavery. The notion that it is ok to just go around touching people is what is what's constantly getting the Catholic Church into trouble.
BTW, I'm being serious. The way you think about God and his/her/it's relationship with the rest of the world is not healthy. |

dude seriously you think that its a probability that we are the only things in the universe that can feel appreciation? no offense, but sounds extremely unlikely. possible yes, probable, no. i mean holy poo, instead of thinking of ourselves as the totality of emotional bliss or absolute intellect, shouldnt we see ourselves as what we most likely are, which is but a mere shade in the vast universe? |

That's basically the stance I have on life. Appreciation. I love interesting things.
Also, Atheism and Agnosticism aren't mutually exclusive. I just usually assume agnosticism due to the nature of belief. I don't believe in a god, but I suppose it's possible one exists. Similar to how I don't believe those emails from "Nigerian royalty" asking for an investment. I don't know for a fact that they're lying, but in all my sense as the person I am, I would never give them a cent. I don't look down on the religious for not having the same mindset as myself. Honestly, as far as I'm concerned, it's whatever gets you off, you know?

Can people stop saying that he's agnostic? I feel exactly the same as this and I am thoroughly atheist. You are getting confused by the terms "spirituality" and "something greater than me"
He doesn't mean God, he said it himself. In that example he meant plate tectonics. Understanding the thing that is "greater" than you doesn't make it any less wondrous.
In the long run all you theists feel mostly the same as this video, it's just that atheists don't feel the need to anthropomorphise the natural processes of the universe and call them God. I doubt that I will ever understand the need to cheapen this astonishing place that we live in by explaining it away with fairy tales. The more we discover, the more amazing it becomes.
