Crakr, a word of warning to you... You're a great user on IAB, you make the site more colourful and interesting and you submit great content. But every time you try to derail millenia of scientific advancement, I promise, I will be right there waiting for you and people like you. Call it a punch in the face if you will, but to quote that classic movie, frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

You proudly call yourself a skeptic. You know who else are skeptics? The people who think 9-11 was orchestrated by the Bush Administration, and the mentalists who don't believe we landed on the moon. Skepticism is easy. Science is hard.

I'll be waiting on the next thread, Crakr. This one is cold.

Look, I spent 7 years in university learning science. As you know, I have a First Class Honours degree and a PhD. Heck, to be a dick about it, it's Dr. Davymid. I've earned my stripes. What are you? A layman, with internet access, who thinks you know better than I do about science.

Here comes the Clue-Train, last stop, you. You don't.

I note with amusement that you accuse me of being a Christianphobe, when you're the most hate-filled Islamophobe that I've ever met. I hate neither Christians nor Muslims. I hate people like you.

I have a stake in the game, I have a child. You (presumably, from your posts) don't. Science has given us as a species everything that makes life good. The jet engine. The internet. Medicine. Plastics. We can live videochat over optic fibre cables instantaneously from opposite sides of the planet. All thanks to the scientific reasoning of humans.

When YOU try to derail that scientific advancement, talking sh*te out of your arse on how "evolution is a lie" or "AGW is dead", again, forgive me if I take the word of hundreds of thousands of professional scientists who say otherwise.

Oh, stop being a twat, will you?

I have no problem with people's personal religious faith. I have a problem when disingenuous, dishonest, or downright ill-informed laymen espouse scientific lies. Because some people might actually believe you.

Look, I have many friends and professional work colleagues (scientists) who are Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, and many others. They ALL get on with their lives while trusting in man-millenia of scientific research that evolution happens, we are having an effect on the global climate, the planet is over 4 billion years old, and all the rest.

You, on the other hand, keep spreading downright dirty lies. And that's all they are. Lies.

davymid: It is obvious you have deep seated hatred for anyone that dares believe in religion. In your mind no one that is religious could possibly have a correct understanding of science or anything else.

I'd say that qualifies you as a Christianphobic. Especially when you utter nonsense like "Dude, I can predict your comment long before you say it.", as if you were a psychic medium.

All you have proved here is your narcissistic rage toward anyone of Christian belief. If you truly are an atheist then why would my belief in sin, heaven, and hell frighten you ? If that's all a myth, Then why do I frighten you ? Seriously, You act as if Christians are going to snatch your kid away from you and force her to read a bible.

Get a grip man.

No. You're right. But Christian Evangelism and right-wing Conservatism permeates through everything you say, from the homophobia, islamophobia, all the way through to the to denial of evolution. As I said before, you're not a scientist, you're a caricature.

Dude, I can predict your comment long before you say it.

The AGW theory is dead.

Oh, it's real. Wish it was different. Dude, it's very much alive. Open your f*cking window.

The AGW theory is dead, and it's dead because the researchers promoting it cooked the data, and got caught doing so.

The sun has much more influence over our climate than was once thought, and this lingering minimum solar cycle seems to be the driving factor behind our colder than normal climate the past few years.

Now what is religious about that ? Nothing.
What is unscientific about it ? Nothing.
Need I drag out the research involving this or can you look it up for yourself, so that you won't accuse me of bad sources ?

Ignoring Aj's retarded comment, and going straight on to Crakrjak.

Dude, you're right about me punching you in the face. Look, I'm a professional scientist. Every single time you bum-rape centuries of scientific advancement by commenting on how climate change is a lie, evolution is a lie, the Bible is the only Truth, etc, you can be damn sure I'll be standing here guarding the goal-posts, waiting to kick you squarely in the balls. And I make no apology for that.

Every. F*cking. Time.

"There's a reason why people send their kids to school, but don't send them to church."

Because school is required by law. Parents will lose their kids and go to jail if they don't send them.

davymid: I'm neither a mentalist or preacher, I could show you thousands of scientists that now believe AGW to be a farce. You continue to bring in evolution vs. creationism and nature vs. nurture on the topic of homosexuality, it belies your "Please don't think that I'm attacking you, personally" statement. It's as stupid as punching someone in the face, then telling them you didn't.

Many parts of 'science' have become entangled in their own faith. Anyone that disagrees is treated like a heretic and shunned, No matter how solid their research or data is. Is that what you want science to be ? So deadlocked in it's own mythology that it will not accept new discoveries ?

I'm a skeptic, Don't take anything just on the word of others no matter who they are. When I seen the greed hidden behind the so called 'Carbon Credit' scheme, it became all too clear that it's not about saving the planet, it's about money.

Gah, got cut off by the character limit. Point was, Crakrjak, you and mentalists like you don't get to educate my daughter. Leave science to the scientists and educators. Meanwhile, leave faith to the church.

There's a reason why people send their kids to school, but don't send them to church. That's all I'm saying.

You say: There is no such thing as man-made climate change. It's all lies an propoganda. Thousands of PhD scientists disagree with you. Forgive me if I take their word over yours.

You say: There is no such thing as evolution. All lies and propoganda. Thousands of PhD scientists disagree with you. Forgive me if I take their word over yours.

You say: there is no such thing as natural homosexuality. All lies and propoganda, right? Thousands of PhD scientists disagree with you. Forgive me if I take their word over yours.

Crakr, you're not a scientist, you're a caricature.

Look, I have a 4-year old daughter, so I have a stake in the game. I want her to be educated to the highest standards that our feeble species can attain. She is overwhelmed with science, she loves it. She'd rather watch the Discovery Channel than Nickelodeon. Hell, on the latest 2-hour car journey, I had to ask her to stop asking me about how f*cking volcanoes work, cause she made m

Crakrjak. Dear Crakrjak. Please don't think that I'm attacking you, personally. I like you. My personal little Crusade is against anyone who abuses science in the name of their personal political leanings, without any clue of science. Don't take it personally.

Nice Graphic. Also nice Quote-Mining, though I though that was beneath you. The terms "Hide the decline" and "Trick" have been debunked many times as scientific chatter between peers. Apparently not, in your case.

Providing two shots from 2008 and 2010 of Global Ice coverage is interesting. I could show a snapshot of my front garden in 2008, and another from Christmas Day 2010 in Newfoundland, Eastern Canada, where we just had the first Green Christmas in living memory. But that would probably be a lie too.

On a side note, I'd much rather it be warmer then colder. A warmer climate would actually lead to more biodiversity and more food production. This colder weather is actually a lot more harmful, and if it continues will lead to even higher food prices and further environmental pressures on species that truly are endangered.

davymid: I find it so odd that you're willing to believe people that have used terms like 'Hide the decline' and admit to using 'tricks' to devalue the medieval warm period.

Thicker sea ice has doubled in the past two years.

What did amuse me though was learning that he laid down a bet with Al Gore to the tune of $10,000 that there would be no change in the Earth's mean temperature over the next 10 years. Gore declined the bet, and a good thing for Armstrong that he did so - Armstrong's own website stopped updating the data in March 2010 after Armstrong had lost 6 of the 7 preceding months. Since then, he also lost the bet for April, May, June and July, making him lose the bet on 2010 as a whole.

And besides, I don't think anyone who disagrees with me is mental. My assessment of you, personally, being a bit mental is based on a totality of your world-view, just four facets of which I laid out below. Feel free to correct me if I was incorrect in any of those.

On the two extra sources you cited:

1. The ICSC is a self-confessed vehicle for Climate Change skepticism. To be fair, they're more scientific than most.

2. Your article from Science Daily is a citation of Prof. Scott Armstrong, who is a strong denier of climate change, so no surprise there. Looking into him a little further, I was not in the slightest surprised (seems to be a trend among climate change deniers), that he is indeed a Professor. A professor of Marketing. Sorry, but I thought we were in the business of citing scientists here?

Also notice how I give links to support what I say, whereas you just toss names of groups out there.

If I'm so 'mental' buddy, Then I guess anyone that disagrees with your point of view is as well. Even if those people have PHDs in their field and are more qualified than you.

davymid: Once again you are disingenuous and inaccurate NCPA only get 20% of it's money from corporations.

You also forgot to mention that the IUCN, that you named, is partly funded by Shell Oil Co. So your sources aren't 'untainted' by your own standards.

I can cite many other sources as well like the ICSC and Science Daily.
I noticed that you decided to not criticize the Obama administration, That rejected placing polar bears into the 'endangered' category.

Crakrjak, you know full well that the NCPA is a right-wing conservative think tank with no US governmental or international concensus, funded by ExxonMobil among others. They have been accused of being nothing more than "a climate change-denial front group". Figures you'd cite them. Would you give it any credence if I were to cite studies by Greenpeace?

On the contrary, some groups who say that Polar Bears ARE threatened include: The International Union for Conservation of Nature, the intergovernmental Arctic Council, The US Geological Survey, the US Department of the Interior, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and many others.

Again, you'll forgive me if I take multiple (and much more credible) sources over yours.
