Wednesday, December 22, 2010 11:52:38 PM anything with the word freedom in it's name has always sounded corny to me. McGovern's name is better IMHO. |

Monday, December 20, 2010 10:26:06 PM We're working on our plan to tour all the states--I hope this is done by the time we get to the East Coast. If it isn't..so what, it'll still be cool. |

Monday, December 20, 2010 1:09:34 PM It's amazing to think about all the stupid poo the major news networks choose to cover---yet not one drating peep about the construction of this thing. |

Monday, December 20, 2010 9:00:11 AM They should have built a runway, that would have showed any wanna-go terrorists. Also, if AL-Q wanted to really hurt America, blow up the Santiago Comic-Con. THAT's how you plunge a country into chaos: no good TV.

The reason why there's almost no coverage is because people don't care about half-finished construction projects. Anyway, I think it's great. Harness the obsolete power of American patriotism and you can achieve this. Patriotism for America still runs the third rock from the Sun! |

Monday, December 20, 2010 7:52:17 AM There is nothing wrong with the name Freedom Tower, 1776 not only refers to it's height but the year of America's 'Freedom', Our declaration of independence. It's going to be a beautiful building when it's finished, Along with the others around it. |

Monday, December 20, 2010 5:59:25 AM "If "freedom" or to put it another way LIBERTY was the main thing Al-Q were trying to strike out against, there was an easier, more obvious, more famous, more iconically American target less than 15 seconds away." only nobody cares about the statue of liberty. we'd care more about the whitehouse being attacked than the statue of lib being attacked. the thought 'meh, somebody bombed a pile of copper with less than 50 people in it.' comes to mind. |

Monday, December 20, 2010 5:42:11 AM Really? Has everyone gotten so butthurt by the stereotype Europe has made of the US that they're afraid of looking like a redneck for using the word "freedom"? I fail to understand how somebody could be that impressionable. Remember what that word means, because this is an example of why we are losing it in this country. |

Monday, December 20, 2010 4:45:55 AM Now, on the actual topic. 1776 feet was a great idea. 1776 was the year of American Independence. It gives the impression of a sophisticated response rather than a blunt "AMERICA MAKE BIGGER!" response. It is already taller than the original tower. It's the perfect height. The "One World Trade Center" is again a sophisticated call out, and sounds like a thoughtful, unifying name. This seems to be the name they're going for. "Freedom tower" just brings to mind a combination of reactionary politics, bad Mel Gibson movies, "Freedom fries", 1984 doublespeak, and Bush Truthiness. If "freedom" or to put it another way LIBERTY was the main thing Al-Q were trying to strike out against, there was an easier, more obvious, more famous, more iconically American target less than 15 seconds away. |

Monday, December 20, 2010 4:00:37 AM Jamie, your second sentence belies your first. 5cats. Might I suggest, that if you think things are brought up too often, try this: Don't bring it up. Especially in a totally unrelated topic, after 3 months of nobody talking about it. Just a thought. Times brought up by you in this thread: 3 Times by everyone else combined: 2, both quoting you. |

Monday, December 20, 2010 1:41:48 AM @mani-jac They should have made them red white and blue, with eagles and stars etc and a big picture of mohamed on it (like the danish ones), let's see if they want to build a mosque next to that...... yes i agree, makes it easier to see from the sky |
