Sunday, December 19, 2010 3:14:44 PM "Language does evolve, but not just because enough people are ignorant enough to mis-use words or spelling. " In fact, it does: "bad" and "sick" are commonly replaced to mean "very good." Most pedants would argue this is a mis-use; however, most scholars recognize that there is very little "mis-use" in something as fluid as language. Transport yourself even 100 years ago and conversation would seemingly break many of the conventions that you and I accept as "proper usage." Travel even farther backwards and the language and conversations are only recognizable at surface level. Very few languages have such a sense of regulation and rigidity or modernity that they do not need/accommodate much development; English, certainly is not one of those languages. |

Sunday, December 19, 2010 3:12:13 PM "pwned is not a word. it's a mis-typing. They tried to put owned and they hit the p instead of the o...jesus people." Pwnd or pwned is a portmanteau of "Perfect" and "Ownage" or "Perfectly" and "Owned." Owned in the context that you are so much more superior than someone you dominate them, in essence; you own them. Perfect imply the flawlessness of execution. Therefore, pwned signifies an incredibly efficient and effective exercise of dominance- it is a word in its own right, and not a simple mistake. |

Sunday, December 19, 2010 8:17:00 AM By the way.. this is WEC. NOT UFC. WEC is under UFC but I doubt that is what most of you mean. You probably mean MMA. WEC, UFC, WAMMA .. it's all MMA. MMA News |

Sunday, December 19, 2010 8:13:51 AM That is nuts! I wish MMA News 247 would cover some more WEC although it is merging to UFC. Anyone know when the merge will be complete? |

Sunday, December 19, 2010 8:13:16 AM about "pwned" "It's how language evolves, people" Language does evolve, but not just because enough people are ignorant enough to mis-use words or spelling. If that were true we'd all be saying poo like this... "Let me AX you some'tin. Can you gets me a credik card wit no quafilications?" There are still standards for intelligent converse. |

Sunday, December 19, 2010 12:34:39 AM pwned is not a word. it's a mis-typing. They tried to put owned and they hit the p instead of the o...jesus people. You're just figuring out the power of the internet now? I guarantee you, this will be in dictionaries by next year. It's how language evolves, people. |

Sunday, December 19, 2010 12:11:27 AM @drworm2002 - Welcome to the internet. As an obvious fan of TMBG, I'd think you'd be a little more open to the evolution of etymology. |

Saturday, December 18, 2010 11:38:37 PM @vkdee It's bad enough that we have our youth using words that have no meaning, but now a lady in her 30's using a word and I am sure she has no idea where it comes from. pwned is not a word. it's a mis-typing. They tried to put owned and they hit the p instead of the o...jesus people. |

Saturday, December 18, 2010 8:55:00 PM All right, people, if you're going to loop something, please kill the audio - especially if it's going to start in the middle of a word and end in the middle of a word. @jib I'm pretty sure that anything goes in a UFC fight. It's not really any different from using the ropes to grant yourself more momentum in a pro wrestling match. Or launching yourself off a turnbuckle in the same. Of course, now we can look forward to all the "FAIL!" videos of people attempting the same. |
