Wednesday, December 29, 2010 7:54:20 PM Why are they laughing? Their kid is going to grow up to be a spoiled retard. They should cry. |

Wednesday, December 22, 2010 8:23:04 PM ugh, I totally agree with that kid. I hate books, and if I got books for Christmas, I'd throw them down next to the clothes I got too. Although books are worse than clothes. At least clothes are useful. |

Wednesday, December 22, 2010 4:19:41 PM How awful, his parents are actually suggesting that maybe instead of playing with his new game system and toys all the time, he should sit down for a few minutes and become literate. Truly a crime against the 'merican way of life. |

Wednesday, December 22, 2010 12:36:45 PM @macfan20 Yeah, way to be a tool. I'm 18 and I have a job to pay my cellphone and car insurance. I also go to a university and I still have all A's in school. I was never really spoiled so much and I actually appreciate what I have and what I get. |

Wednesday, December 22, 2010 12:34:26 PM @macfan20: Not all people born in the last 20 years have had the luxuries that you had. I'm not saying its a bad thing that you get what you want or anything but not everyone is as blessed as you are. And actually, it is the children who didn't have everything handed to them on a silver platter who are usually the harder workers when it comes to wanting success because they didn't have it all and want to strive to make life better for themselves. You probably either have damn good parents in your corner to help you in life or are naturally motivated or both. |

No, its the spoiled kids that have the time to devote themselves to what they want to do in life (like school) because they dont have to waste their time at work throughout the whole thing. |

Wednesday, December 22, 2010 11:26:07 AM a lot of people in this thread are idiots. GIRLS unable to comprehend why they wanted books for presents while this BOY doesn't. Also, what is the purpose of books? To use your imagination right? Derr derr derr - toys do the same thing - only the story is your own which makes it that much better. At this age reading is school work. I wonder if all the people bashing this kid would appreciate having things they have to do for work given to them as xmas gifts - same concept. |

Wednesday, December 22, 2010 10:38:00 AM To everyone bashing the child and family - we live in a materialistic society, and anyone born in the last 20 years is used to getting what they want when they want it. I'm a student in university, and I got mad last year when I didn't get an iPhone for Christmas. My main gift was much more expensive; however, it was something i wouldn't use. My parents then went out and purchased an iPhone the next week. Some of you may say I am spoiled, but the point is that I do not settle for less then what I deem to be acceptable. It's why I've worked so hard to receive scholarships for university, am at the top of my class, and just secured the highest paid internship available. It's often the "spoiled" kids who will work the hardest to succeed in life.

Wednesday, December 22, 2010 9:13:59 AM I was moderately spoiled as a child, and may very well have done something similar...that being said if my kids ever reacted that way, the only thing they would get for their birthday from me would be the DVD of that reaction. |

Wednesday, December 22, 2010 8:37:42 AM @ madest: I grew up in just above poverty level as a child, so whatever I got from my mom from Christmas I was grateful for. I was just happy to have a warm roof over my head, clothes on my back and 3 square meals a day so I counted myself blessed. Sure I didn't get everything I wanted but I sure as heck didn't pitch a fit because of it. |

Wednesday, December 22, 2010 8:10:23 AM @HalfPintRoo: Maybe because I actually expect parents to do their job? Yes, advertising has an effect on kids, but if you don't want them to turn into spoiled brats then you need to limit the amount of advertising they are subjected to. They can start by not plopping little Johnny in front of the television and walking away. |

Wednesday, December 22, 2010 8:04:17 AM I think it was cute, but I guess that means I'm going to be a bad parent. The kid was young, I don't know of a kid that young who wouldn't want toys instead of books. And we don't know who's wii that is, he could have a sibling or someone else there. But I probably would have done the same thing, and giggled at it. The way he said it was cute. oh well. |
