What a bitch. I refuse to label myself as liberal or conservative, seeing as both sides are full of arrogant pricks who believe everyone who disagrees with them slightly is an idiot. I'm so f*cking sick of hearing about political poo. I just want to move to some remote island for a while and distance myself from this messed up country/world for a while. |

And because regular people take their cues from polemics like this they insult anybody with differing opinions with regurgitated sound-bites. It's getting harder and harder to be a moderate these days. Ideologues have it easy because they have a built-in audience of people who agree with everything they say. |

Honestly I think she has a point about neurological function affecting the way the majority of people engage with politics, except she doesn't mention that it happens on the left as well. I don't quite remember, but I think I read in "The Nuero Revolution" that studies have shown that the emotional centers Janeane refers to are mainly what's active in the midst of political discussions. That happens on the left and the right though. I believe this is a trait that benefits social cohesion of small populations, by permitting them to more consistently differentiate their groups from others. But this trait wreaks havoc on the social cohesion of larger groups. I think that in order to create a decent society, we have to have the balls to realize when we are clinging to an agenda for the sake of dominating some intellectual rival out of territorial instinct and not public interest. But folks are usually too caught up in wanting to feel like they're right to get to that point. |

Also: I'll listen to it, if it's placed in front of me. I'll listen to it ALL. As evidenced by the fact that I'm one of an apparently select few that noticed her saying that republicans and cons weren't the same thing, and that she was insulting republicans, not conservatives (thought I have no doubt she's likely insulted cons the same way before...).
I don't actively seek out information most of the time, but when I come across it, I take it ALL in, not just the parts I want to see that suit my agenda.
How's that suit your attempt at calling me a hypocrite? Which is, in effect, insulting me, since I'm not... Which means you ARE, because you accuse me of insults, then proceed to insult me (like constantly calling me a liberal, which I'm not)... |

I'm mainly liberal, but this wasn't brains, this was generalization and ignorance just like we hear spewed from the conservatives. If you go back to what the Republican Party was founded on, that is, more state-run laws and decreased taxation, then I can see the attraction.
