Umm... It's supposed to be funny. It's next to some Christmas lights. It seems like a response to people stringing up Christmas lights so that the ends don't line up right and they think they need a two-sided male adapter.

Jus sayin

@DFWBrysco If you have a generator you want to connect to your electrical panel you need to use a transfer switch so that when the generator is powering your panel you are not backfeeding the pole outside. Most power companies will permanently disconnect your power for backfeeding because of the danger it poses for their workers.

@ChainsawNbud - Hey - no one said that this solution was for everyone... there are just some things that you cannot idiot-proof. There are idiots that still use hair-dryers in the bathtub, or stick screwdrivers in sockets... besides - it would only get to the transformer before it was grounded out - since (at least in Ft. Lauderdale) there are only an average of four homes to the pole transformer, it is doubtful you would see a lineman up there.

suhweet. "immoral" to set up a dangerous electrical item that might possibly kill someone whilst setting up decorations celebrating the birth of a son of a self purported mass murderer (via flood).

@ChainsawNbud

"DWFBrysco...that's a good way to kill people who work on power lines...there's always going to be the idiot who doesn't know or doesn't care and forgets to flip the main and energizes the lines outside the home."

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I may well be, I'm a layman on this), but wouldn't doing that just trip the home's mains circuit breaker?

"the electrical is distributed throughout the house to all plugs and due to the transformer in the circuit breaker box is stepped down to 110"

umm, there are no "transformers" in circuit breaker boxes O.o
Unless you mean the 110v to 12v/24v/36v doorbell transformer sometimes mounted to the exterior of a panel.
The power is separated by each breaker on the double breaker being connected to opposite 125v rails inside the circuit panel.
Sorry had to say it >.>

It's not the double-ended male that's 'immoral', its the fact that both of those back-to-back males have to be plugged into females as well. For those confused about it:

2 Guys, 1 Girl = WIN!
2 Girls, 1 Guy = WIN!!!
2 Girls, 2 Guys = Meeeh

There are legitimate companies that produce male/male adapters in both 110 and 220 sizes - they are used with portable electirc generators.

Instead of spending a fortune having wiring put into the circuit box of a home, you plug one end in a generator and one end into the 220V plug usually used by a clothes dryer - the electrical is distributed throughout the house to all plugs and due to the transformer in the circuit breaker box is stepped down to 110. Just flip off the main circuit breaker coming in from the street asnd any for any plugs to anything you don't want to use and you are set.

Better than running extension cords everywhere...

"The issue is that you can have live exposed pins."
did you not read
"The only issue here is using it properly."
or any of the part about making the pins not exposed before making them live?

I'm probably giving too much credit (and general consideration) to the sign-makers' thought, but maybe they were thinking of the people producing and selling the adapters. Manufacturing unsafe devices that have a very simple and safer alternative that does the same job just as easily could be considered immoral.

@I-IS-BORED

The issue isn't that the pins might get damaged.

The issue is that you can have live exposed pins. Accidentally touch anything metal to them and you've got yourself a catastrophy in the making.

Hell, touch them with your fingers and you could have a problem.
