Thursday, December 02, 2010 1:19:25 AM The press morally shouldn't 'out' someone... for some stars it does wreck their careers, There are still a surprising amount of people out there who are 100% anti gay... and wont ever buy 'said persons' music/movies/whatever after they know 'saidperson' is gay, Sad but true.... And also majority of what the press say are lies, but people still believe it. I think they have a right to sue over being defamated (sp)... IMO the press need to give it a break, they stalk people and if it were anyone else they would be arrested and charged... I feel sorry for most celeb's.. I cant imagine people vid/photographing me every second im in public... I'd personally go nuts and start shooting people im surprised most of them dont. |

Wednesday, December 01, 2010 2:06:14 PM It is absolutely Travolta's right to stay in the closet if he wants to. It's the same with Jodie Foster. Sure people in the spotlight coming out can help younger people. But they have also the right to their privacy. This isn't about being ashamed of who you are, it's about actors wanting to keep their career professional. The media crossed the line way long ago about what was appropriate boundaries for these people. It's stalking. It needs to stop! |

Wednesday, December 01, 2010 11:02:49 AM I think it you're in the closet, you are harming yourself by not being true to who you are. However, it's up to the individual to decide if they should come out or not, not some crappy gossip website. Besides, does anyone really care any more these days? |

Wednesday, December 01, 2010 10:48:53 AM He didn't sue South Park because he knows that they make fun of everyone and that it's in fairly good humor. Gawker is pure sh*t. |

Wednesday, December 01, 2010 5:44:45 AM the question is then, would being gay hurt his reputation? if so, he's well within his rights to sue, otherwise he'll find it tough to get anything out of it. |

Tuesday, November 30, 2010 11:11:44 PM It really all depends on how they phrase the story. They'd probably phrase it as "sources close to Travolta say he's gay," or "Travolta was seen with an unidentified man that some think might be his lover." Neither of those statements are necessarily untrue, but lead people to suspect that Travolta is gay. Not libel, but a pretty foul way to make a living if you ask me. As far as I'm concerned, gossip columnists can all go die in a fire. |

Tuesday, November 30, 2010 11:03:56 PM "You have the right to say anything that doesn't put somebody in danger. I don't care if your reputation is destroyed by lies." This is simply not true. You might not care about who your lies hurt, but the fact is libel is not protected free speech. You can be sued for harming someone's reputation with lies. And that's the way it should be. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 9:25:48 PM @pandas actually libel is falsely accusing him is libel/slander if he actually is and they have proof, then there's nothing that's illegal immoral maybe but not illegal |

Tuesday, November 30, 2010 9:15:43 PM Libel is merely the favorite word used to attack free speech. You have the right to say anything that doesn't put somebody in danger. I don't care if your reputation is destroyed by lies. |

Tuesday, November 30, 2010 9:09:46 PM Libel = false statements/accusations that defame a person in print Slander = same as above EXCEPT it's just by the spoken word and not print. |

Tuesday, November 30, 2010 9:08:22 PM Uh they don't have the right to do that. That's called libel... it IS libel (currently, because if he is gay, he hasn't come out yet, so therefore accusations of him being gay without coming from Travolta himself is libel). And he can sue them because he, himself, says that it wasn't true. Oh US Government AP... the only time you'll do me any good... |
