Tuesday, November 23, 2010 4:24:34 AM Well I already don't smoke and that stuff is still pretty disturbing to me, and I look at some drated-up stuff. I feel kinda bad for cigarette addicts. I mean, I've smoked tobacco before in pipes and I guess hookah counts. The taste and the soothing sensation you get is nice but to be addicted to actual cigarettes must suck; they smell like horsepoo and make me sick just to be around. I can only tolerate tobacco when it is free of the messed-up additives the companies put in it. |

Monday, November 22, 2010 5:41:40 AM @ErinBtx "and obamas big answer to social behaviors like smoking is to heavily tax them. this is supposed to fund the healthcare burden these evil smokers place on society. oh, wait. that doesn't make sense. healthcare is free and doesn't cost anyone anything!" *sigh* Are you really that stupid? "Free" healthcare means "free at the point of use". Don't troll the debate with that moronic diatribe. |

Monday, November 22, 2010 3:11:03 AM Well, all this is going to do is raise what it costs to make the pack, and then raise the price of cigarettes. again. like people said, the only way to stop smoking is to make it illegal. but even if they do, ill still smoke. weeds illegal and people still smoke it. |

Monday, November 22, 2010 12:32:44 AM they need to put drunken car crashes and drunk driving victims on liquor and beer bottles next If you drive and crash every time you drink, the problem is you. You want smoking and drink-driving treated the same way? Really? What happens if you get caught driving while drunk? |

Monday, November 22, 2010 12:29:46 AM it's amazing how idiots want to legislate laws against every single behavior they don't like. It's amazing how idiots think that's a rational argument. There are many things I don't like. I don't want to make laws against most of them. If you believe that everyone who doesn't want smoking imposed on them wants to outlaw everything they don't like, you're insane. If you don't believe it, you're lying in order to slander your opponents. Either way, you look bad. no one stops for a minute to think of the consequence of allowing our government to decide what we can and cannot ingest. i) Unless you advocate the legalisation of all drugs, you're contradicting yourself. ii) It's not about what you ingest. It's about what you make other people inhale, the filth left by your drug use and who pays for your ill health as a result of your drug use. But mostly about what you make other peop |

"why don't they just make smoking illegal" is hilarious to me because IT IS ILLEGAL in any and all locations that any local, state or federal government deems it so. and obamas big answer to social behaviors like smoking is to heavily tax them. this is supposed to fund the healthcare burden these evil smokers place on society. oh, wait. that doesn't make sense. healthcare is free and doesn't cost anyone anything! this just made me crave a cigarette and i don't smoke. |

Sunday, November 21, 2010 9:28:58 PM What's wrong with the current labels? Yeah, it's a bad habit, and I'm glad I didn't smoke, even though I did grow up in a family full of smokers, but seriously, this is just pretentious and stupid. People are going to smoke regardless of how many times you tell them it's bad for them. People like to try new things, rebel, and find out what they like on their own. Quit trying to tell people how to live. |

Sunday, November 21, 2010 7:38:02 PM If their going to try this hard to get people to not smoke, just make it fcking illegal! i) That would be a good way to lose the next election. ii) Look how well prohibition worked for alcohol in your country. Making it illegal wouldn't work without overwhelming support from the people and maybe not even then. It's extremely hard to stop drug use that's so deeply engrained into a society. You can't use reason either, because it's such an arsebrained way to take a rather pointless drug that no-one using reason does it. They're immune to reason. Yes! I will blight my health, risk a foul death, harm everyone near me and maybe give them a foul death, make myself, my clothes and everything near me stink and coat everything around me with a veneer of stinking filth in order to take a drug that doesn't have much effect that I could easily take in a clean way for less money! No-one can think that and be rational. |

Sunday, November 21, 2010 7:29:35 PM All these freedom-destroying, holier-than-thou douchenozzles that that want to strip people who like to spray urine on everyone near by of their rights at every turn make me sick. Get a life. If you don't want to spray urine on people without their consent, good for you. i do, so leave me alone. I don't, of course. I'm just making a point. Feel free to try a counter-argument, bridog6996. I say that knowing you don't have one. |

Sunday, November 21, 2010 7:12:31 PM "while they're at it, there should be pictures of fat bastard on packets of chips." Exactly. Scapegoating cigs as the ultimate threat to human health is stupid, and ignores the broader pattern of behaviors that negatively impact people's health. I see no problem with informing people of the risks of certain products (even the Wii has a warning about the importance of using the wrist-strap), but I think the principle is applied fairly unevenly. Bottles of night train should have to have close-up pictures of bums' faces. Honestly though, wouldn't it be awesome if every McDonald's add had to have at least one morbidly obese person in it? They'd hide them in the background, but they'd be there. It'd be like a game trying to find the fat person in the McDonald's ad. |
