Tuesday, November 16, 2010 3:43:45 AM And what gets people pissed off these days? Illegal wars? Spying on your own citizens? Tax cuts for the ultra rich? Deregulation? No none of that, something as benign as health care reform is enough for idiots to break out their guns. |

Tuesday, November 09, 2010 7:24:01 AM Let's do away with the military, then we won't need the "Military Industrial Complex" (I feel like I am back in the 60's). Then we also don't need, the CIA, the FBI, the ATF, Customs, The Border Patrol, State Police, or FBI. Peace Love Dove Baby..... and we can all listen to the Grateful Dead. Maybe bring back Hands across the World? What the hell did all that have to do with A. Lincoln? |

Tuesday, November 09, 2010 5:45:49 AM Truer words have not been spoken. I have hope based on the spread of information in a grass-roots system. If everyone who sees the imminent collapse makes a heartfelt plea to those within the sphere of their influence and those folks "tell 2 friends" and so on ad infinitum we may find ourselves having made a movement(insert cynical poop joke here). I think on some level everyone has had it with the current paradigm and all but the most elite or apathetic can be brought to "start down another path". This is my hope anyway... We all know the cliche "Become the change you want to see in the world" and it would seem that might be a good start, then try to get that mindset to spread around. 'tis the least we can do... |

Tuesday, November 09, 2010 3:05:58 AM @betard The majority of this country is already ruled by self-preservation and/or apathy. There's no sense of community. We don't speak with our neighbors. We barely live beyond our own self cultivated social circles and work environments. There was a time that the Government was afraid of the people, but it's long past. There isn't enough patriotism (real patriotism, not the blind faith following of what we're told is called patriotism today), or or righteous anger in the masses to do anything on a national scale. The percentage of money and power held by the minimal percent of the population in power leads to an extremely top heavy environment that will either collapse, or forced to self correct. Viewing the points I made in the previous paragraph, people will need to become far more concerned in the majority to achieve a correction. Currently, we are on course for a dramatic and violent social collapse. I agree with you. I just don't beli |

Monday, November 08, 2010 10:02:24 PM That being said, DISMANTLING THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX is nothing short of an imperative idea! This is a hole that we've all dug for ourselves and if we all can't get it together on a level of basic human decency, change our collective behaviour, and start doing things in a different way instead of just going along with the program we are rushing headlong into GLOBAL MARTIAL LAW. I'm pretty sure nobody but the ones giving the orders wants that. Time to look at the true faces of the few who rule over the many and truly scrutinise why and how they came to be in that position. PUT DOWN THE SHOVEL PEOPLE! Stop being blindly complicit in the wanton destruction of what is left of the soul of humanity. DISMANTLE THE EFFING MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX!!!! Eisenhower warned us against it himself. For realz. Ike's somber warning |

Monday, November 08, 2010 10:00:11 PM @sender02 We *can* live in a world of sparkles and sunshine! (hand holding optional) We just have to collectively pull our heads out of the sad reality we have placed ourselves in. Like attracts like, it's basic alchemy. There are arsewholes like Iran and North Korea (among a great number of others) because our government installed despotic puppet governments in them to increase our global influence. Stirring up poo somewhere between two perceived factions or creating a rift between similar factions in whatever capacity; economic, religious, food supply, natural resources, the list goes on... Get them to scrap it out amongst themselves (sell 'em both armament for a quick buck) and then offer a solution by sending "troops" in to "promote democracy" when all that is really going on is we are placing people in power to "oversee" the "conflict zone" to assure it's being run according to the standards of the great "liberators".

Monday, November 08, 2010 9:09:11 PM @Nidonemo I think so...Every year gets taught the same thing (judging by how old the textbooks were). They focus on WWII and The Great Depression. History was only mandatory for one semester in high school. I took it again in my last year, but that was the Renaissance and such. |

Monday, November 08, 2010 8:25:20 PM Adressing all you idiots who dissaproved or how Lincoln ran the country: Enough with your "The South Will Rise Again" Bullsh*t. He avoided war as long as he could until the south fired shots after they did the federal version of "this isn't fun anymore, I'm leaving" like little babies. It would have been retarded to just let them keep attacking forts and killing enlisted men, so he got medieval on them to his great displeasure. If the south had been in the right, enough people would have supported them that they wouldn't have gotten their a**es kicked. |

Monday, November 08, 2010 8:20:58 PM BetardFooser: I would also like the whole world to be sparkles and sunshine where we all hold hands and stuff like that. Unfortunately, there will always be a**holes, like Iran and North Korea, who won't agree to play nice just because we hung up our guns. Dismantling the military is a stupid Idea. |

Monday, November 08, 2010 7:08:02 PM "excellent liberal public schools?" skip to 3:12 The only one who "educated" me was my ma, who taught me to read. Once you can do that with any acuity it's fairly easy to see that schools are simply there to fill your head with rubbish to hypnotise you into consensus reality and subservience to a coercive labor system. I for one am not at all happy to live within this construct. If you are, then more power to ya. But don't go about insinuating that people are stupid or ill-read because they feel the need to voice their dissent. If you're not fed up you haven't been sitting at the table long enough. Once we all decide we've had enough suffering, maybe we can *actually* change the way things are done. |

Monday, November 08, 2010 6:52:19 PM tripe. hogwash. balderdash. codswallop. folderol. baloney. horse-feathers. twaddle. load o' bollocks. Polishing a turd is all this is. War is not acceptable on any level any longer. I refuse to glorify brutality in any way, leastwise under the guise of freedom, liberty and equality. The equation simply doesn't add up. DISMANTLE THE INDUSTRIAL MILITARY COMPLEX! |

Monday, November 08, 2010 6:39:39 PM @bryantm3 just because we don't approve of the way president lincoln handled his entire presidency doesn't mean we are anti-american. if i were anti-american i wouldn't care what the hell he did. Huh? Are you one of those that makes himself a victim? Below is what I typed, and I don't read anywhere calling you or anyone anti-american? @tridirk Worse yet, that even Americans don't see the wisdom born from strife and all the death. All because they like to be provocative or are blinded by their political views. I think you like to be provactive and stir the pot? Or else you have been educated by one of our excellent liberal public schools? Read before accusing please, it will serve you well in life. |

Monday, November 08, 2010 4:57:28 PM Lincoln is perhaps considered our greatest president because the words he spoke were always so powerful and heavy with purpose. Now 150 years later they are still relevant because the root bias and hate that helped start the American civil war are still often seen and recognised. |

Monday, November 08, 2010 6:45:02 AM @bryantm3 Although I enjoy your vitriolic and fictional view of history, I must say I'm more impressed with the fact that you can type in the F-word and get it by 1-a-b's censors without seeing the word "drat" pop up. Guess it just takes a passionate point of view to disable it. |

Monday, November 08, 2010 5:06:25 AM @Suicism - consider it done. And you can vote for me for PM of Aus, and we'll get thoroughly plastered to the point where we can end the oil crisis by running cars on the alcohol in our urine. |

Monday, November 08, 2010 4:07:21 AM bryantm3: Actually, Hostilities began on April 12, 1861, when Confederate forces attacked a U.S. military installation at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. That's a piece of history you should've learned in high school. Your assertion that Lincoln declared war on the south to protect the northern cotton industry is both absurd and historically wrong. The south seceded from the north because they wanted the new western states to be 'slave states'. Lincoln had no power to declare war, Congress did. The secessionist states fired the first shots and started the rebellion. Lincoln had no other choice but to call for a draft and defend the union. I don't know where you got your version of history, But it's wrong. |

Monday, November 08, 2010 3:14:46 AM @bryantm3 - you should read some of the other contributions people as long-winded as yourself have made. @eskimo9 - vote for me. I'd TOTALLY wear a monocle, and I already have a drinking problem. |
