It is still a hangout for teenagers, but they certainly don't talk like this anymore!
Not really, it's not a hangout anymore. Even back then you'd find more teenagers at the Glendale Galleria or Northridge Fashion Center. The earthquake forced them to tear down the old Sherman Oaks Galleria and what they built in its place is rather pathetic. More of a business building than a shopping mall now. It's all outdoor now and nowhere near as big as it was before.
It really wasn't that bad to live through. The song was the most annoying part. Maybe I was just blinded by hormones at the time. |

Another movie featuring the Galleria would be Encino Man, Buuuh-dee!
I thought this was hilarious, as it was real. People..ahem, girls, actually mimicked this look and adopted the speech patterns, in order to be cool!
I personally love to watch society evolve, be it for better or for worse, from Disco-Stellas to Valley Girls, to 90's depressed misunderstood pseudo-maturity (see: the teen girl in the movie Uncle Buck) all the way to emo girls nowadays.
It's an interesting thing to observe, social patterns, yet sociology classes oft fail to mention things like these as events in society, they focus on the hippie movement of the 60's, the nazi and communist movements...or odd traditions in tribal settlements.
IMO those things are nothing in comparison to the truly bizarre things the desire to stand out can create. |

The entire time I watched this I couldn't help but picture the demise of not just the contestants and hosts, but also the audience as well..Zombie's killing them, ninja's, me, dinosaurs, all sorts of horrific deaths....And I'm glad I was not alone in this. |
