Actually Rick_S your idea is not only on track but becoming a reality. There is research to cure mosquitoes of malaria by taking in a cure from people they bite. Also there is an attempt to alter the disease of rabies itself. Rabies has a very narrow body temperature in witch it can survive (its why possums almost never get it) and they are trying to bio-engineer a way to change rabies so it requires such a high body temp that nothing serves well as a host. All vectored through normal transmission.

I wonder if there is a way that the people and cattle there could become the "syringe" that carries the medicine for the bats. In other words, put something into human and/or cattle systems that adds the medicine to cure the rabies these bats are carrying to the very blood they are drinking. Then, as the humans and cattle get attacked, they actually medicate the bats, curing them of the rabies.
Probably not, but wouldn't that be cool? |
