at 3:11 its not as bad as it looks. At of race vehicles like these are designed to break apart leaving a roosterpit/cacoon around the driver as this one did. Alot of these ive seen on a movie called and the walked away. The one at the end i know for a fact he lived.

There may have been no fatal crashes but they still got serious hurt.

btw, i have seen cars that are heavier and less horsepower than a lambo accelerate faster than one. in that respect its down to the gearing, those supercars are designed to have an awesome top end. drag cars are designed to max out after 1/4 of a mile.

@ piperfawn; your argument is retarded. there is so much more taking place than you think, it is not as simple as that. these dragsters are designed to have the most straight line performance possible. such as they have a really long wheel base so that the total mass needed to keep the front wheels on the ground is less, they have giant rear wheels so they can grip the ground. the exhaust is pointed up and backwards so that the 1000 pounds-force will work for the car. the rear airfoil produces around 12000 pounds-force at 300mph. the fuel is nearly compressed to a liquid state on the compression cycle. the fuel they use (nitromethane as it is commonly called in my end of the world) can combust without the presence of oxygen. the builders of these cars even go as far as using aluminum connecting rods instead of titanium so that they can absorb some of the shock of combustion. these are the best performing cars for straight line ACCELERATION. not to be confused with land speed record

Some of those were just plain poo-outta luck, but some of them seemed like really dodgy engineering. Pretty sure those things are specifically designed not to flip up at the nose like that.

So dragster have a performence "JUST" half than Lamborghini also if have a power 10 time bigger and a weight that is near to half. At my eyes this is a fail for dragster.

Of course on straight road dragster win but what i say is that on virtual lambo have 1/10 of hp than dragster and is more heavy and the result of dragster is very poor if you think that as you say lambo need 10 seconds and dragster (10x hp and near half weight) 4 second.

@ piperfawn: what performance are you talking about? street performance? of course a Lamborghini will top the dragster. Track performance? again, the Lambo wins. Straight line performance? not a hope in hell will it out perform the dragster.

super performance cars and drag cars are built for completely different kinds of performance. Neither could do the other's job effectively.

@Djarum - sorry, I'm the one person who doesn't recognize NO2 by itself, but I'm not native to NHRA. Years ago, a friend invited me to the Winston Super Nationals (tells you how long ago it was.) His dad was crew chief for a pro stock team so we got to go almost everywhere with the car.

My buddy dragged me back to the staging area when the top fuel class started their qualifiers. The prevailing winds blew the exhaust straight towards us. The burnouts were as effective as tear gas.

@Fuego Everyone recognizes the NO2 symbol, but if you put the hydrocarbon molecule in front of it, no one has a clue what you're talking about. So calling it NO2 is the simplest thing to do.

I do believe those tears of exhaust.

@piperfawn: a lamborghini would take about 10 seconds to travel that quarter mile. that 8000hp top fuel dragster takes just under 4 seconds.

@Altaru: here is an interesting piece of information for you.

in one day (24hrs) there is more fuel burnt in personal vehicles then there is from a whole year of racing (that includes all kinds of sanctioned racing)

@ Gradde: if you look at 3:15 the object closest to the ground is the intact roll cage. it would be a really bumpy ride but he does survive (i have a cassette with the aftermath of that crash on it)

Yeah, I have my doubts as to 3:11 not being fatal. On the other hand, a lot of the really spectacular crashes leave the driver relatively undamaged.
