CJ, I agree with you however I think you're incorrect on your assessment of "in god we trust."

It implies a trust in a god; the term "god," while often ascribed to the Judea/Christian concept of a god, is a neutral term. The phrase therefore simply implies in trusting a "higher being."

So it does not respect any religion particularly, making it bit of a loophole.

...I still think it should be removed but I also don't think it violates the law.

I think that if you relax, clear your mind and put it through a truth table, you'll find that it keeps each out the other.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion"
Means that the doctrine no particular religion may be favored.
"...Or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."
means that the government may not outlaw any particular religion, either.

To make a federal law requiring Christian/Jewish creationism in school is a clear violation of the first part but, then,
having "In God We Trust" on the federal currency is, also.

CJ, you're dead wrong. The purpose of the establishment clause wasn't to keep religion out of government; it was to keep government out of religion.

I never said it was. The words were used in the letters between the founding fathers. It was pretty clear that they wanted nothing to do with a government based on religion.

I said the idea was in the first phrase of the first amendment.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"
It very clearly says not to make laws that incorporate religion into government and don't make laws that regulate what religions are permissible.

CodeJockey: The phrase 'separation of church and state' is not to be found anywhere in the constitution. Look it up, Source.

Crak, that is complete BS.

People don't like Palin because she says naive, narrow minded shi#.
- On hearing Obama beat Clinton in primary: "We'll, looks like Sambo beat The Bitch..."

People don't like O'Donnell because she CONSTANTLY shows the lack of a grasp on reality.
- "Where in the constitution is there a separation of church and state?..." She was serious, meaning >>she didn't recognize the phrase<< as being separate from "vote your conscience on behalf of your morals and your constituents."
- Sued the 'Anti-Woman's Liberation' org she was working for when they f*cked her over by making her assistant her boss.

Now, that does not mean that a Clinton (f*cking hot head, exaggerated the physical danger of diplomatic visit) or a Pelosi (tried to travel into a nation on the State Department's 'do not travel' list) are above scrutiny.

People judge them to be smarter.

Crakr- that is rubbish, I am not a Democrat, not American, I hate people, male or female who talk, promote and believe crap. Creationists are all included in that because their brains are apparently non-functional. I admire intelligent, good looking women who are high achievers - that means they require functioning brains.

davymid: Most politicians here are Christians, Because the majority of the people are as well. Nancy Pelosi is a democrat and catholic, I don't see people criticizing her because she believes in the transmogrification of wine into blood, Do they ?

No, They criticize her because she a rabidly pro-abortion, Which goes against her catholic church tenants.

Very few people hate Sarah Palin or Christine O'Donnell because they are Christians. The democrats hate them because they are Conservative, Pretty, and Popular, The liberal women are, For the most part, Dried up hags.

I can give photo examples, If you choose to argue that point.

Preferably after a light dinner, in front of a nice fire.

"davymid: While I do admit religion should be left out of politics, there should be some reserve in religion for morals. And by the way, it was made in 7 days. Just not 6000 years ago"

@ CrakrJak; "Then turnabout is fair play."

I agree, making fun of this woman is completely fair. However, when I make fun of Sarah Palin and Christine O'Donnell it's because they're uninformed on issues, and politically retarded- then when they make mistakes it's exacerbation. It's like talking trash about a crabs infested hooker and then making a joke about how they've probably evolved into lobsters.

It's ancillary humor, not the root. The root is that they're morons. I don't make jokes about Eric Cantor or Lindsey Graham, or Mike Pence, or John Boner... lul.

because while I may not agree with all of their ideals I think they are largely sane individuals and I respect them as politicians and human beings.

When I posted this video I didn't know who ascribed to which party- I did it because i'm 22 and the word "boners" is hilarious to me.
