That's so cool, how he can openly say such personal things, in order to help kids like himself. Where I live, or at least in my class, we don't hate on gays or lesbians. It's become a way of life to our generation. Soon enough, no one will really have a problem with it.

It is because gay people have birth defects, and just like any other birth defect they will be hated on. its what kids do

Being gay isn't a birth defect, nor a choice.

That is what is so bloody sad about kids who kill themselves at such a young age. It does get better, life gets better.

I had a friend who's sister killed herself at the age of 16. She was beautiful, smart, and had what I thought was everything going for her.
I wish I could only go back, and tell her, life gets better, what is so horrible now, will seem so insignificant when you get older.
Yeah well, if wishes were horses, beggars would ride...

I grew up in a gay friendly town, but kids still committed suicide. My graduating year we had 3 kids committ suicide. Regardless if you're straight or not, this video speaks a louder message. There's more to live for and look forward to if you just hang in there.

The one thing ive never understood about people that that pick on GBLT's, is, why?

Why do you pick on them so much? What dose it matter if they want to be gay, dose it hurt you in any way? I was sitting in class one day and this black kid in front of me stood up and said, "if anyone in this class room is a faggot, imma beat the poo outta you and leave you for dead." I looked at his retarded ass face and asked him, "why? Why do you care?" and of course he was too stupid to come up with a response. So if anyone is smart enough to come up with a response, tell me.

So you understand why people pick on nerds, dorks, religions, race, etc, just not the gay community? That's just gay.

I have a lump in my throat. I wish I had seen something like this when I was around twelve. Before I pretty heavily disfigured my arms and legs with razor blades, and did all those drugs. It has gotten better, though, I think it would have been even better if I hadn't wasted so many years there.

I wouldn't have been able to do that if I were him. I'd probably quit around the first time he started crying.

"...then find the jocks/losers that picked on you living in trailers bagging your groceries..."

Nope. They are cops now so they can keep pushing people around.

Bagging Groceries is an honest days work. Putting someone down for it is lame.

Live through the bullying, go to college, get a degree, get an awesome job making mad $$$, then find the jocks/losers that picked on you living in trailers bagging your groceries, then go home and lol your ass off.

It's people like that that make the world a better place. It's people like that who make my day a lot brighter.
That pushed me to tears, it was one of the more meaningful and wonderful starts to my day imaginable.

It's sad that people such as teachers let this kind of harassment continue, though admittedly, it's hard to stop kids from bullying, since it's usually done out of the classroom, and then it's all he-said-she-said type thing. I just feel so sorry for those kids who feel so alone, that they can't even talk to anyone about how they're feeling...they just off themselves. I'm glad he had to balls to admit trying to commit suicide/wanting to commit suicide (cause it was obvious even though he didn't say it) so publicly, because he's a great role model. Successful in life. Completely.

I'm confused, did he try o kill himself or something.

He didn't actually say it out loud because it was too difficult, but he implied that he either attempted suicide or was about to attempt it one night when he was 13. He told enough of the story that in context it's clear what happened.

Completely heartbreaking. I'm so proud that this guy is a member of my species. He is really doing something brave and meaningful with his position.

This video could make such a huge difference and save so many lives, not just those of gay teens but teens in general being bullied, or anyone thinking about suicide.

That's like...That man deserves a hug. That must have been so hard for him to do, and I'm thinking the 'unfortunate day' to which he refers to is the part he decided to skip over in his speech, and I'm not sure but I think he may have tried to kill himself.

Political repercussions?

My friend, if there are ANY repercussions, I'd bet BIG money the world would be on your side.

That was amazing. I didn't cry, but still... That took some serious balls.

@arkabeoht i think he was referring to something he had written in his speech that he decided not to read. something to do with his parents.

but on a side note it makes me proud to be from fort worth. and for people that dont live in a state as homophobic as texas, this took a truck load of balls.
