Friday, October 15, 2010 12:17:58 AM Wasn't the end of world 2012 idea started by a fiction writer? These sorts of things usually are. From what I understand (not a whole lot) about the calendar, it just records days, so saying the end of the calendar is end of world is like saying every time you flip the page on your calendar the world enters a new era, and when you reach the end of the year, the world ends. |

Thursday, October 14, 2010 6:19:39 PM The calendar doesn't say 2012 is the end of the world. For those calling believers in the calendar idiots, you also are idiots for not understanding the calendar. That would be me. And I understand the calendar far better than the aforementioned idiots do. I "believe in" the calendar. No belief is needed, because it can be proven that the calendar existed. So your criticism is yet more ignorance. It says 2012 is the end of one time era and the beginning of a new era. What exactly that means remains to be seen. It could even be a good thing. The calendar says nothing. It's a calendar that counts days. The dates roll over every 1,872,000 days because of the format they used for writing dates. It's the same as, for example, a calendar rolling over every ~27 years if you used a 4 digit base 10 format to count days (0-9999). The Mayan religion has some prophecies. Are you a believer in Mayan religion |

Thursday, October 14, 2010 9:10:54 AM Bit of a boring wordy article, but all this proves is how unclear these whole "predictions" are. This ancient civilisation made a calendar we're not completely sure how to interpret, and wrote down some things we don't fully understand. It's not like the mayans clearly stated "the world will end in 2012". Someone just claimed it and everyone believed them. It's ridiculous, and everyone is getting way too worked up over nothing. |

Wednesday, October 13, 2010 3:59:26 PM Is there a bigger waste of time than studying when the end of the world is going to come or arguing that it will end in 2012? -No way to stop it -No benefit of being right, you won't exactly be in the mood to gloat when you are proven correct. -People think you're a basket case, right or wrong -No one wants to sleep with the crazed "The world is going to end!" guy, even if it really is the end |

Wednesday, October 13, 2010 3:37:57 PM Well, this will give the idiots who believe in the 2012 thing without even knowing what they're believing in an excuse come 2013. It was off by a few years, right? So bring on the new date. And yes, they don't know what they're believing in. The entire Mayan long count calendar is only of any relevance if you are a follower of Mayan religion because it starts counting days from their religious creation story. Hardly any of the 2012 believers know even that most basic thing and few if any of them are followers of the ancient Mayan religion. On top of that, people who are Mayan will tell you that their long count calendar doesn't predict the end of the world anyway. Which is probably why ancient Mayan carvings depict dates more than 2000 years from now. I can confidently state that no-one who believes the 2012 myth has any idea what they're talking about. They don't even know the most basic things about what they claim to believe in. They're fools or lia |

Wednesday, October 13, 2010 3:23:13 PM Well, I think the 2012 prediction is already enough of a societal meme, and there are going to be some AMAZING parties regardless. |
