Yeah I suppose that's what happens when you play a sport that stops every time someone drops a ball, every time someone catches a ball, every time... hell, pretty much anytime really. They all thought they were supposed to stop, huddle together and maybe interchange the entire team.

Septembere - If the ball would have gone at least 10 yards then the kicking team could have picked it up and ran with it but since the ball went less than 10 they couldn't. The kicking team was just too dumb to touch it so it was at least a dead ball. |

The same thing nearly happened at the beginning of the Chiefs-Colts NFL game this past Sunday, but a Chiefs player alertly touched the ball preventing a return by the Colts. |

Yup, has to go ten yards. If it stays within ten yards and nobody touches it, it becomes dead and the other team gets the ball on that yardline. If the other team touches it within ten yards, it becomes a live ball, with possession going to whichever team recovers the ball.

As far as I know from my experience playing Madden games. The team that makes the onside kick can't touch the ball first, the other team has to touch it before them or else it's a foul. |
