I think everyone's looking at this the wrong way.. it isn't bashing atheists, its bashing christians by suggesting that anyone would be dense enough to watch this movie for anything but comedic value... Still a bashing, perhaps, but to take it seriously would be abashing..

Oh Christ Almighty that is some BS. Good GOD how I hate when people of any religion assume we're out to destroy them. I'll patiently wait until people stop believing, thanks. I know it won't happen in my lifetime, but I'm content to ignore them.

Two things:
First, Christians STOLE the Winter Solstice from the pagans and made it their own holiday. So they are hypocrites.

Second, this movie looks terrible, I can't believe that Jefferson from Married...With Children would stoop so low.

Christmas has turned into a hypocrisy, just like every other religious holiday. People are supposed to celebrate the life of Christ on Christmas, but instead, they worship some non-existent guy in a red suit and consume, consume, consume. True Christians shouldn't even celebrate Christmas as it is in its current form.

FTR, I'm agnostic.

Thank you, r3tr0r0ck3r.

May I just say, as an Atheist, that I do not despise Christianity, or Christian tradition. I respect the beliefs of other people, and I realize that Christmas is no more 'garbage' than the breakfast I am currently eating. I believe in the spirit of the happiness it gives off, and although I do not believe in Jesus, I support Christmas for instilling a sense of much needed peace in the human population, year after year. Christmas, although I don't agree with the backstory, is a good thing.

It's morons I don't like.

"This country was started by christians' Indeed, after they about wiped out the Native Americans. Being a christian is nothing to be proud of.

Not really an issue here in UK - Santa is WAY bigger than Jesus at Christmas.

It wasn't even our holiday to begin with, and yeah I agree-it's like what I said before once... are people really defending it because they think it's a 'Christian' holiday, or are they just defending the presents and booze?? If Christmas became a holiday about just celebrating Christ's birth and no gifts were involved, how many would actually consider it a priority in their lives to take time to celebrate it? Probably very few. Peh....

quote adamslily:

"We atheists don't care about your home decorations! But would you be Ok with walking into a courthouse with Quranic text on the wall over the judge's bench? Or if your child was taught the story of muhammad every winter rather than that of jesus's birth? We only care about the public places that belong to all americans - what you do on your own property is your business."

don't mean to butt in here, but would quoting a famous author in a public display be offensive? if you are truly atheist, wouldn't non-judgmental displays of religion be comparable to a quote from a novel?

personally i think it would be great if all religions that had something decent to say (for example, religious quotes that promote committing a crime wouldn't be acceptable) could be displayed on public grounds. i think it would be kind of neat to have quotes from the qu'ran and the bible and the new testament. it would show america is accepting of all faiths. <

aw jeez. i have no problem with people displaying nativity scenes and whatnot on public property, it's no skin off my nose. the separation of church and state really only means the state cannot promote a religion or specifically sponsor a religion. i don't think they should remove any religious items from public grounds, but offer to erect other items if asked. for example, in jesusville, peter paul puts up a nativity scene on public property. mr. muhammad muslimilla comes along and says he is offended. the town government offers to erect a ramadan display but refuses to take down the nativity scene. THAT to me is sufficient separation of church and state.

i'm an atheist and happen to love christmas. down here in the mid south bible belt working on christmas apparently is a big sin so i get double time or better picking up shifts at work no one else wants. CHRISTMAS ROCKS!
