Saturday, September 25, 2010 2:34:38 PM "I can go buy one of those as soon as the gun store opens. Assault Weapons ban lapsed a year ago." No you can't. You don't know what you're talking about. The "assault weapons" ban banned anything falling under the made up term "assault weapon" which can be effectively translated as "OH NOES SCARY LOOKING!!!!1111" It banned weapons on a cosmetic basis alone, it did nothing to impact functionality. Assault rifles did not fall under any more or less regulation through the AWB. "Enforcing those laws does." Too bad it's pretty impossible to enforce such laws. Prohibition, be it of drugs or tools, never works. |

Monday, September 20, 2010 2:22:32 PM Firstly, this guy is an idiot. He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a gun. Secondly rncotton, why the snobbery? Just because someone buys an AK doesn't mean they're going to break the law. Some people(myself included) simply cannot afford to own/shoot more expensive weapons(I assume you own an AR). For those with less money, the old ComBloc weapons are a great economical option. Sure, they're not pretty, high-tech or expensive, but they are extremely reliable and inexpensive. With light/inexpensive modifications, they can be made to shoot almost as well as an AR(ex: my SKS can pop target clays at 100 yards time and time again...it cost a whopping 400 bucks with mods). They may not be made in the USA, but they're still decent weapons. Shoot safely. |

Monday, September 20, 2010 10:53:56 AM Musuko42: If you had bothered to read it, " The figures, compiled from reports released by the European Commission and United Nations." And it was printed in The Times as well. So quit acting as if it's fake news, Just because you don't like the source. |

Monday, September 20, 2010 10:48:49 AM "3). IAB needs to learn what gun control actually is before it talks about it." Gun Control is hitting your target. Look at Washington D.C. with a Murder per capita that ranks it 4th in the nation, one of the very few places in the country with a total handgun ban. How's that gun legislation working for them? Oh that's right, they are in the process of overturning the ban for its unconstitutionality. Same with Chicago. |

Monday, September 20, 2010 10:02:56 AM Like this asshat would obey laws. We already have gun control laws. If you want to own an AK-47 just fill out the paperwork and pay the license / taxes, then wait for your background check. That idiot ... I guarantee didn't follow the law. If he *had* ... he wouldn't have bought a cheap-ass AK-47. |

Monday, September 20, 2010 7:28:17 AM "The UK has very few shootings and all guns except some shotguns are illegal. Follow suit America..." For a start you're wrong about all guns being illegal. It's fairly simple to get a license for high powered hunting rifles, and pistols can still be legally owned (although it is a lot more difficult to get a license because there are only certain situations in which the UK government thinks a pistol is necessary). Secondly you're wrong about us having less gun crime than America. Sure, there are a higher number of gun crimes committed in America, but there are actually less per capita. This means that statistically, if we had the same population, then the UK would have a higher number of gun crimes. The situation in the UK at the moment is that only the bad guys have access to guns, that doesn't seem sensible to me. We need (at the very least) to arm our police in order to have a chance at reducing gun crime. |

Monday, September 20, 2010 6:46:33 AM That is a fully auto AK. If this video was taken in the US, gun control really has no effect since the gun was acquired illegally (his ass doesn't have a class 3). IAB needs to learn what gun control actually is before it talks about it. |

Monday, September 20, 2010 6:34:35 AM "So where do you get off telling us that our gun laws are making us less safe?" I will try to throw my two cents in here. See if this makes sense. Since the first settlers came to this country we have had guns. It was/is the right of every citizen and has been for the past few hundred years. Because of this, guns are EVERYWHERE and easily obtained. Whereas in most of Europe (I think) the Government/s have had it all on lockdown for centuries. Because of that, you would need to be shady or criminal in order to know where to get them. Whereas here, it is not that hard for anyone. So it is an easy argument to make that gun deaths would be lower in say England, whereas much higher in the US. If you had gun rights up until last year and then had them all taken away (for argument sake) I think the death rates would be comparible. |

Monday, September 20, 2010 5:46:51 AM vv @Thetas ftw! Lets ban Toyotas, that'll stop people from speeding :) Lolz, I've been busted by the Logic Police! I meant that you must act to kill someone, a weapon is used by a person. Alone it cannot do anything, it's a person's actions that are the problem... too much thinking, eh? Here in Canada we have a high murder rate, but knives are often used. I call for a knife ban! In England the use of guns in all crimes went UP after the ban, for the reasons I mentioned. Also there's been some discution here at IAB about what Europeans call 'murder' and what North Americans do. In short: the lower 'murder rates' might just be a technicality. |
