This is why I want to be a nurse in the O.R. Patients are out when they come in, and they're out when they leave. Not much poop, no talking morons, just cut, sew, repeat |

k8lin is right,
When patients don't poop after a few days, the doc usually rules bowel impaction and we have to stick a few fingers up there, break up the constipation, and drag out the hunks with a hooked finger piece by piece.
I much prefer to wipe a butt, thank you. |

I am a nurse, and while I appreciate why people feel embarrased in such situations, I really wish they wouldn't. For many nurses, we deal with urine and BMs so much that we're pretty desensitized. Not to mention, we like when people poop -- constipation can be a real issue in the healthcare setting.
With all that said, I think a bigger issue is that many nurses can be insensitive to how hard it is for people to rely on another person to "clean up after them". |

She probably smiled because of how awkward it must have been for you, and this was her way to keep from feeling awkward as well. Odds are if she was about to catheterize you or help a you, a young man urinate, you were in a pretty tough situation.
I have a friend who has been through a situation where he required a nurse to wipe him after a bowel movement, and he says it is the most humiliating, embarrassing thing he has ever gone through. |

Psh, that woman isn't a nurse, I've never seen a nurse do donkey work. The nurses on my ward do paper work and push pills. HCA's get all the physical work now, they do the real caring. |

dear god.. horrible hospital flashback.. im thankful i was badly injured and i was frightened under the circumstances of what was about to be jammed up there, because the nurse that was doing it was FINNEEE but oh man it was horrible |
