Saturday, September 04, 2010 9:23:57 AM i love this girl. i want to be a teacher, and we're constantly drilled in at the university i go to that it is not going to be easy; we are going into a system that is against anything but learning towards standardized tests. i'm glad she shamed the teachers behind her, and spoke to the parents and kids while she could. i wish i had had such an opportunity. bravo!! |

Friday, September 03, 2010 9:48:41 PM OMG, I heard so much of that crap at UC Santa Cruz. Is every generation doomed to redo the mistakes of the previous ones. |

Friday, September 03, 2010 12:05:57 AM School is just a place to keep us off the streets until we're 18. I have so many friends who can't boil water and patch their pants. It's embarassing. The stupidest person I ever met made straight As in school. :/ |

Thursday, September 02, 2010 9:46:02 PM I hope someone shows her this video in 25-30 years. If she's as smart as she thinks she is, she will be embarrassed. |

Thursday, September 02, 2010 9:03:49 PM Self righteous bitch. Really though I wouldn't want to be lectured about a speech which it can be boiled into two parts: "the system is wrong" and "actually learn poo instead of learning for the test" Second part yeah our school system is crappy, but I'm not sure of the solution of no dates because that is removing the introduction to the real world aspect of school. Yeah you have no life no our problem. |

Thursday, September 02, 2010 8:49:25 PM @MauserTM: I'd totally get with her. I've been making that exact same argument for the last 12 years. I don't know whether to feel cheated or admired. |

Thursday, September 02, 2010 5:40:00 PM Couldn't make it more than a minute. She is terrible at giving a speech. On the other hand, though, I do agree that people focus more on getting the diploma than learning the information. This the reason I have not been back to college since leaving: I learned more out of the classroom than I ever did in it. |

Thursday, September 02, 2010 4:01:37 PM Would not go to school... and would then be screwed in the future when they grew up and realized they could never achieve anything without any education and they would be left to resort to crime and life on the streets |

Thursday, September 02, 2010 4:00:47 PM She sounds like a paranoid conspiracy theorist... clandestine efforts to minimize future achievements? What purpose would that serve? The under-performing students, more frequently than not, under-perform because they do not wish to do any work and would rather spend that time doing drugs or otherwise wasting their time, not because the system works against them and pigeon-holes them into that position, but because they choose so. The people who want to make something of themselves are willing to put in the hard work so they may learn something and make a difference in the world. The choice is entirely up to the student. Opportunities are out there for kids to explore their passions, and never is the school hindering their efforts by brainwashing them to act as robots. The suggestions she seems to be making, like non-compulsory schooling, would wind up being detrimental to society. The students who wanted to improve themselves still would, and the one who didn't want to do any work. |

Thursday, September 02, 2010 3:50:21 PM An alternate explanation to the query by Crebhian could also be: She did what her parents wanted her to do. And, more times than not, you can't really escape what your parents expect you to do. |
