Tuesday, September 07, 2010 1:18:54 PM The green mass represents the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Stunning, isn't it? |

Wednesday, September 01, 2010 12:13:29 AM "thank god for Jupiter!" Actually no not thank god. If it wasn't for Jupiter the asteroid belt would most likely not be there but be another rocky planet like earth Venus mars or mercury. But its theorized that the gravitational pull from Jupiter and Mars didn't allow this asteroids to hit each other and form another rocky planet. Also for the people talking about space travel. It looks like you couldn't walk through the asteroid belt with out hitting one. That is again the scale. If it was correct you would realize that typically there is thousands of miles between each asteroid no to mention its not just a thin band but it is rather THICK ex thousands of miles tall so they are all really spread out and would easily be navigable. "I saw at least a couple hundred "asteroids" pass right through Earth. Where was I when that happened?" Again scale and have to think in 3d. They may have passed above and the "hits" you see c |

Monday, August 30, 2010 7:34:46 PM "There is a problem of size/scale. This makes it seem like there is more asteroids than empty space, which is not even close to true. Yes, there are many, many asteroids out there, but the pixel size is misleading on how filled the sky is." You're forgetting the image doesn't show depth so it is all placed on top of each other. There is nothing wrong with the scale |
