honestly, there should be a better way.
There is - testing for what is actually relevant.
Say, for example, a job requires a high level of rapid thought and reaction speed. A pilot, for example. They won't need it most of the time, but if anything goes wrong then you're going to want your pilot to be completely on the ball. So test pilots for that, as that's what is relevant. If they're too sluggish to do their job properly, it doesn't really matter whether the reason is drug use, fatigue, diabetes, hypothyroidism or whatever - the relevant thing within the context of employment is their aility to do the job. |

Unfortunately for your nice simple binary world view, the only recreational drug I use is alchohol and that very rarely. About a unit a month on average - every now and again I'll enjoy a nice whisky. Chances are that you use recreational drugs much more than I do.
No, wait, that's not entirely true. I also use caffeine, usually in coffee but sometimes in tea and sometimes in some soft drinks. Oh no, what a waster I am!

That's an argument about what's practical, not about what's right. Two different things.
It's like saying to people 50 years ago in the USA "Don't object to segregation - you need to keep your job and they might sack you if you object to existing policy for any reason." That would have been a realistic practical argument. |

They do ruin them for a reason. The reason being that they have been taking drugs that are illegal in their country.
If you think the reason is legal, why are you arguing for judgement and punishment to be imposed by businesses and not the criminal justice system?
Why, in your opinion, are all the businesses that use drug testing lying about why they do it? None of them say they do it to catch people who used a drug illegal there (even if they did so somewhere else, where it isn't illegal).
Standard drug tests also test for legal drugs.

@tws I don't hurt anyone, and if you have ever read anything I posted you can't really call me a moron, even if you disagree with my opinions.
Besides, I had a much better alternative; I learned how to create my own wealth and work on my terms now.
Angilion pretty much hit the rest of it on the head. What I do doesn't hurt anyone and I have not only created two businesses, but I also employ others in this economy, so... |
