(Seriously, why does Hammond like Zondas?)

Apart from the fact that they're excellent supercars, it's the ostentatious styling inside and out. Some supercars are quite restrained in their appearance, with elegant, refined interiors. Zondas are gleefully unrestrained in their appearance inside and out, with "I am a sci-fi spaceship" design. Hammond likes that exuberance. Supercars are toys and he likes his to remind him of being 10 because something that would have made him say "Wow, awesome!" when he was 10 will make him grin and laugh today.

My girlfriend is not a car enthusiast and doesn't like the show....but she doesn't understand the relationships between the hosts and their quirks (Seriously, why does Hammond like Zondas?)

OLD friggin Episode.

I think James May still had GREAT NEWS concerning the Dacia Sandero back then...haha

For all who think this car is amazing, you are right, but this is the first model reviewed on the show, I believe it is the CCR (correct me if I'm wrong) and the newer faster one the Stig crashed was the CCX (was it not? Or was it the CCX-R which he had a spoiler added?)

Whatever. I have watched the show so much I actually, accidentally say "bonnet" and "boot" when referring to the hood and the trunk....I Love re-watching old episodes.

Top Gear is one of the best shows on TV. Even for the non-car enthusiast, you will love this show.

Just make sure you pirate the original, as shown in the UK. Versions edited for showing abroad are always worse in some way. The music is often badly done (as in this case) and bits of the program are sometimes removed to make space for adverts. The original is a full hour long.

The producer of Top Gear has repeatedly referred to the many people (especially in the USA) who pirate Top Gear and understands why they do it. The Top Gear website jokes about how the pirate copies are available five minutes after the original program ends. The producer has referred to the Final Gear website, which has torrents for every episode of Top Gear.

Hell, I'd go so far as to call you a friend, or as close as you can get to a friend over the internet! You're right though, we should try to be more civil to each other in future, I'm all for that. Mutual respect to disagree with each other's positions and all that, but not to make it personal.

My apologies too, Crakr. Handshake?

Sorry Crakr, was out all day, just got back.

Sure, apology accepted (no need though) and likewise I apologise too. Sorry, I got hot under the collar on this one too.

By the way, just to clarify: please don't think that I hate you, or even dislike you, at all. Sure, we have very different opinions on politics, religion etc, and we're often at each other's throats, but I don't mean any disrespect (sorry, I was out of line on this thread, especially with the last post).

Quite the contrary, I enjoy your posts immensely even I don't agree with much of your opinions. You're clearly an intelligent guy, you're one of THE VERY BEST contributors to this site, and kudos for sticking around despite some of the flak you get from me and others. This place would be less interesting without you (which is kinda the Prime Directive) and I for one am glad (sincerely) that you're a part of this community.

The 'Vette's suspension has evolved, yes, but is still quite simple compared to some largely other-than-american machinery.

True, but it's also a lot cheaper. Which is a good rule of thumb for USA cars compared with cars from much of the rest of the world. Performance is better with much of the rest of the world, but the price/performance ratio is better with the USA.

One of the more famous Top Gear comparison tests was done a few years back with 3 4-door sports saloons. One from the USA (Chrysler), one from Australia (Holden), one from Britain (Jaguar). The Jag was the best, but it cost 50% more than the others and it wasn't 50% better.

davymid: Upon further consideration, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gotten angry with you. You're entitled to your opinion, Even if it's wrong in my eyes.

I forgive you and ask the for same.

It was not very Christian of me to be angry with you, Again I'm sorry.

davymid: [quote">To put that into perspective, that's the exact same suspension technology that was used on Roman war-chariots.[quote">

SHOW ME THE DAMN ROMAN WAR CHARIOT that has a C5 or C6 independent rear suspension.

YOU posted a picture of a "SOLID AXLE LEAF SPRING SUSPENSION" to go with it. That is NOT the C5 or C6 independent suspension on the Corvette, Thus YOU LIED.

Even the wiki-source you linked to says it's an independent double wishbone suspension. The fiberglass 'monospring' you point to is used as anti-roll bar.

The auto parts industry doesn't even call it 'leaf spring', Rather it's called a Fiberglass Rear Spring

Not my words, seriously, you can even google that sh*t for yourself. At which point should I stop talking here?

In other news: homosexuality is not something you're born with but a lifestyle choice, Global Warming is a myth put around by the liberal left commies, and evolution is a lie, because it was all made by God some 6000 years ago.

I don't have any "anti-American" bias that you accuse me of, I have an "anti-head-in-the-sand-idiot" bias.

Dude, you know what? You're right. The Corvette doesn't have leaf-springs. Whatever helps you sleep at night. I'm done here.

davymid: You just can't admit it when you are wrong. There are NO LEAF SPRINGS.

Sure. Do me a favour, google "Corvette leaf spring", like I just did. 179,000 results. Let me type out the first page for you, to make it easier for you.

davymid: You just can't admit it when you are wrong.

There are NO LEAF SPRINGS.

There is One, Count it, ONE Fiberglass Anti-Roll Bar on the C5 C6 suspension. Calling that "Leaf springs" is total crap and you know it.

You have repeatedly shown your anti-American bias and it's not just toward cars.

What's really disturbing is that you won't admit you were wrong when faced with overwhelming evidence. Not only that, But you attempt to claim victory with bogus information.

Geesh.

There is not a leaf spring in that whole car. Sorry to call you out like this, But Corvettes hasn't had leaf springs for well over a decade, and you obviously showing your ignorance.

I was merely demonstrating that there ARE leaf springs in a Corvette, that they DO have leaf spring technology (never mind haven't for decades)
and that I am NOT ignorant. To be fair, it was the last part that rankled me: you have to be careful calling someone out as being ignorant - you may just provoke them into showing everyone that you're wrong.

I'm done here.

davymid: "Rear: Independent unequal length double wishbones with transverse fiberglass mono-leaf spring mounted to allow for anti-roll effect." - quoting the article you linked with

It's an anti-roll bar, NOT the main suspension components, As the picture you added earlier depicts.

You still fail because the C5 C6 suspensions are still 'independent suspensions' That are not tied directly to the rear axle.

Note that it states Double Wisbone suspension. That is not a "Solid Axle Leaf Spring Suspension".

The so called "Spring" is an anti-roll bar made of one piece of fiberglass, Not the 'leaf spring' (layers of steel) you implied.

Watch the few Top Gear episodes on it if you don't believe me (if Jeremy Clarkson, the awesome, but snarky, nationalist goon having one isn't enough of a testament to its awesomeness).

He got rid of it because it was too unreliable, so you might want to rethink that example.

He has praised various other USA cars, though.

He derides cars from all over the world and it is true that handling has traditionally been seen as pretty much irrelevant in USA cars. Driving patterns and cultural backgrounds are different. Long trips, straight roads...why pay attention to handling? Racing heritage is drag racing and the straightest possible track - why pay attention to handling? What most of the market in the USA wants is a soft ride as cheaply as possible with a very low state of tune (to extend the life of cheap components). So that's what is mostly made.

Ever since I found out about the Koenigsegg CCXR, my DREAM has been to find one, steal it, MAX THAT BITCH OUT, then dive out of the car at full speed.

Yes, I want to kill myself via 250+ MPH road burn, and let the car crash. Preferably into something large and explosive.

Wait a while and steal a Koenigsegg Agera instead. It's replacing the CCXR because, well, you know, the CCXR wasn't powerful enough.
