Wednesday, August 18, 2010 10:45:35 PM definitely untrue, i am living prof of it. When i was young i was unhappy and depressed, i didnt listen to anybody, and i was stubborn as a mule. Now, i am pretty easy going, i listen fairly well, and im still stubborn, just only on what matters. |

Saturday, August 14, 2010 4:55:22 PM I definitely disagree. First grade: Energetic, talkative, adventurous, You-piss-me-off-you-will-know, sugar-loving kidlet. Now: Lazy, quiet, passive, sugar-loving adult. Haha. Well, I guess some things never change. |

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 7:18:05 PM I disagree, also. I was somewhat happier in my younger years. i was shy and quiet, but cared greatly about other people. That was me too. I loved helping people and being nice and polite. I've changed drastically since then. I still care about people and feel for them, I just don't give much of a 5hit about doing anything for them anymore. |

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 12:05:24 PM Even though "Big Five" personality traits remain constant relative to peers throughout your life, the actual behaviors change dramatically. After all, if a first grader is "Open to Experience" that might mean he or she is willing to try Chinese food (if he is a Mexican American) compared to other kids. As an adult, that same person will be willing to try illegal drugs, or maybe not, maybe he will like to travel to other countries. Both of those are "Openness to Experience" which is one of the Big Five personality traits that remains constant. |

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 11:32:14 AM I think that there may be something to this, but I think its conclusions are a little too strong. I know I have changed since 1st grade. I used to be extremely shy, but I have gotten much better at talking to people. When I hit puberty, for a while I was really aggressive and angry, but I've gotten over that. Of course, that was probably due to the hormonal imbalances of puberty, but we do go through several changes throughout life. The brain isn't even finished developing until we're in our mid-20's. Things like impulse control are among the last to develop, so an impulsive child may turn into a responsible adult. We would need a greater knowledge of neuroscience to point out every trait that is liable to change as we age, but I think there are several that can. |

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 11:20:24 AM What a load of cr*p! Like a certain french president who wanted to install police surveillance for toddlers known to have a criminal ascendence.....thank god our personality traits evolve and adapt! |

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 8:18:00 AM Well I should show this to the people who look weird at me when I'm playing in the park, I'm still a child! On a serious note, it may be true; some things have changed, but I consider I'm basically the same. |

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 7:42:46 AM http://tiny.cc/i8hgq "They examined four personality attributes - talkativeness (called verbal fluency), adaptability (cope well with new situations), impulsiveness and self-minimizing behavior (essentially being humble to the point of minimizing one's importance)." This is what they examined. Not how much you liked girls or juice. |

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 2:05:19 AM Intentional deception area: They start the article by giving it an absolute, generalizing statement. "Your personality at age six is your personality for life." They then go on to contradict they absolute, generalizing statement to tell use that this isn't indeed always the case. "They found that behaviors observed by the teachers when the students were in first grade were almost always predictive of their personality in middle age." Note the three words "Almost Always Predictive". Of course "almost always" means that it doesn't happen all of the time. But the word predictive means that your personality may not be the exactly the same, but similar enough that certain traits still remain. So just in the first paragraph alone, they completely destroyed their hypotisis that "Your personality at age six is your personality for life." |

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 1:07:08 AM I disagree with this. I too, was an extremely shy kid in first grade. Seriously, I was terrified of everything, including the teacher. But now I'm way more out spoken and not at all scared of teachers or people in general. |

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 1:01:54 AM Erm... I am exactly the opposite to how I was in first grade. There are some aspects that stayed the same, but I've gone from shy to fairly extrovert in the last 5 years. From struggling to make friends, and not being able to talk to people in first grade to doing standup comedy and being on TV interviews in my mid 20s. My personality really changed in 7th grade. When I swapped schools I went from being the shy awkward kid, to one of the popular kids. I genuinely couldn't be more different. Very Skinny -> Fat. Introvert -> Extrovert. Quiet -> Loud. Shy -> Outspoken. Loner -> Socialite. Moderate Secular -> Moderate religious. Emotional -> Logical. (Not quite what I mean, but closest I can get). Slow -> Quick. Awkward/Clumsy -> Confident. Hard Working -> Lazy. I still like Thundercats though. So there's that. |
