A lot of indy promotions do shows in high school gyms. Its sort of a way to get kids interested in the shows. They sometimes bring big named wrestlers (like Awesome Kong, whom was a major Women's division wrestler in TNA, in the above picture) to draw a crowd. Most of the time its wrestlers who are on reserve or free agents. I can't count how many times the fed I worked for booked guys like Gangrel, Doink the Clown, and Spike Dudley (whom lives and works as a high school teacher in a nearby town anyway)... |

I wrestled for 6 years after I got out of high school because there was a great indy promotion in my city. I can say with absolute honesty that wrestling is only fake in the sense that the winner is predetermined, storylines are played (though a lot of promotions don't buy into the soap opera poo), and we are trained to use the moves so we don't kill each other. The physicality is real. The pain we feel is VERY real. Injuries are common. Fact is, wrestlers put their bodies on the line with every match to entertain people. Its meant to look flashy. Its meant to be a little beyond belief. Being unrealistic and fictional is what makes MOVIES and most TV so entertaining, so why can't wrestling use the same formula? |

Yes, I guess I would be a bit distressed if I saw that coming at me. But unless she has the ability to adjust her trajectory in mid flight, I'm sure she is destined for the mat and not the other fighter at all. So it's still fake. |
