You obviously know jack about your pinnipeds sir.
Otarids (sea lions) are very different structurally from Phocid's (true seals). True seals are excellent swimmers and cr*p on land, sea-lions are better on land, and not so efficient under the water. The difference is *very* important as you can outrun a pissed off elephant or leopard seal - not so easy with an aggresive fur seal, or sea-lion. Of course you can't outswim either (unless you are Patrick Duffy).
