Tiger Mike was an non-nice individual. He knew it and reveled in it. Copies of these would occasionally float around the office when I worked in O&G. I haven't thought about them in years.
From what I gathered in talking to co-workers who were in the industry at the time and some who worked at that company, he could be a bit of a dick at times, but he was generally respected. O&G in the 70's (at least in Houston) was an odd mash-up of cowboy culture and ultra-conservatism (except during OTC.) To try to disect these memos using the current mindset is folly. |

Happy to say this jerk went out of bussiness in the mid-eighties. His sister and brother-in-law were just a mean and tight. They'd take any lunch out of the fridge and tell the poor soul who went without that he/she "owed" them a lunch because they had a job. Also had a bad habit of not paying vendors because it really was their money and they needed to keep it as long as they wanated. |

this is nothing compared to some of the bosses i work for. a memo? HAHAHA. how about screaming in your face? Also SOME of the things he said at least made sense - fabricating paid expenses, using a typewriter instead of handwriting. not that much to ask for. |

I don't think it's too much to expect your employees to do the job they're being paid to do. If my boss caught me on IAB when I'm supposed to be working (like now), I'd expect nothing less than a reprimand.
I can only imagine that this type of memo was acceptable 9 years before I was born. |

This really made me laugh. I bet he's a really nice guy outside of work. Also, I don't think he was disrespecting them because they "need the job", it seems to be more because they are "fabricating expenses", which I believe is a fairly reasonable thing to be angry about. |
