This is the Cultural Hat Exchange, which happens mostly around Guilin and Yangshuo in Guanxi Province, China. It's a popular holiday destination for foreigners and Chinese people alike, mostly because it looks like the picture of China that people have in their head.
Anyway, what happens is, everyone piles onto a boat, goes down the river and gets off at a dedicated tourist trap. All the Chinese people buy cowboy hats and all the western people buy these Chinese hats.
It's the Cultural Hat Exchange, and everyone ends up looking a right wazzock. |
