Monday, August 02, 2010 8:56:57 AM Scones are yummy!! I usually get one at Starbucks, but I don't know how they compare to English scones. Nevertheless, I'm addicted to them!! |

Monday, August 02, 2010 1:27:55 AM Yankees eat pizza and crab cakes man! This is Confederate food :) America is fat because our food is awesome. European food well.. blood pudding, spotted d!ck and really wtf is a scone. Only poor people eat paper here. But Europe does have awesome liquor and heroin, guess that explains alot. ;) |

Sunday, August 01, 2010 9:33:04 PM It's actually from a book. The average cupcake is supposed to be a brownie. It's supposed to be a TV dinner made entirely of cupcakes. |

Sunday, August 01, 2010 6:01:02 PM I like how they snuck in the Average Joe cupcake, as if trying to hint at us that these are cupcakes and not real food. |

Sunday, August 01, 2010 5:51:13 PM @buscompany Fair point. I'd like to think most of the 'hate' isn't genuine though. I hope we're not that ignorant. |

Sunday, August 01, 2010 4:45:35 PM @WolfStar I think the problem with this particular post is that the fat American joke seems kind of random and tacked on for no reason, although admittedly most of the posts at IAB have some sort of stereotype randomly tacked on to the description for laughs. Anyways, my point is that with most other national stereotypes, no one actually buys into it. Very, very few of the American IABers here actually think that France is comprised solely of wussies, or that the English really do all have bad teeth, but when someone posts an American stereotype it seems like half of the comments from Europeans are about how much this makes them hate Americans, or such. Clearly there are a good number of Europeans who are buying into the stereotypes, and, by there own words, "hate" Americans for them. And that's what's really aggravating. |

Sunday, August 01, 2010 2:52:55 PM Bleh, I hate it when people crossover sweet things with salty things. Even though this'd probably just taste like a cupcake it still kind of grosses me out |

Sunday, August 01, 2010 2:11:22 PM @buscompany 'The problem isn't that people are making fun of Americans, the problem is that there are far too many people who buy into the stereotypes and choose to base their prejudices off of them. ' I don't agree with people justifying and basing their prejudices on stereotypes either, but it does seem in this case that many Americans are happy to do just that and go along with the 'joke' when it's in regards to other countries, but as soon as the table's turned they get incredibly defensive and outraged. Which isn't to say all Americans are like that, of course they aren't, but the reaction to this post has been pretty telling for everyone outside the US who also sees the responses to all the other 'insert vaguely offensive national stereotype here' posts on IAB (often in regards to their own country, which are generally taken in stride, disregarding the small number who are always determined to be offended). That's just how it appears to me. |
