@ Buiadh and fattpill you got to be kidding i thought it was translated with google or babblefish j/k i was a theology student i am not that dumb but you missed my whole point: over all this time that the Word of God has been in existance all those times it has been translated i am saying that the wording is no longer the same so where as I would take a word to mean one thing you may see it as something different. That is my point, the "thinking" athests are hanging up on some words in the bible that "contridict" without thinking that it can be just a trainslation error one of the thousands if not millions of times it has been trainslated and btw fattpill if what you say is true than please explain to me which version is the real Bible KJV NRSV ect because any versions you look at has wording differances and just for the record I am a bad speller i never denied that but just like the different versions of the Bible My words may not be the same as yours

Religion is more of a victim than anything else. It gets warped and twisted to fulfil the questionable purposes of some fallible human beings.

Religion is the source of a lot of societal ills and if Christians had their way their moronic book would be taught in schools under the guise of "intelligent design". Imagine that.

Here's where I stand on the religion thing.

If you want to practice religion, go ahead; pursuit of happiness and all that.
But the moment your practices of religion encroach on another person's pursuit of happiness, then I'm going to have a problem with it.

I'd agree with you CrakrJak that world would better without Al Qaeda, Taliban, Qutbists and other fundamentalist sects. I take that further and say that the world and the US would be better without any fundamentalist sect of any religion.

These 'incidents' BTW are treated as crimes by the Turkish government. Oh and CrakrJak keyword in your statement is 'had' as in it's in the past.

BTW have you forgotten about the Bosnian War? It is a PRIME example of Christian violence against Muslims. How about the Spanish Inquisition (long time ago I know) Catholics persecuting Muslims I tell you.

There are 'incidents' that happen in Turkey which are treated as crimes. Quite frankly they all look like a picnic compared to the Church Bombing in Alabama.

True the Hagia Sophia WAS a mosque, but now it's a museum. Thanks to the kindness of the Turkish government many of the Christian mosaics which were covered over the years have been uncovered. PLUS there are many active churches in Turkey to this day.

It makes me giggle to watch the religious and the non religious have these little battes over who is wrong and who is right. Religion is BS, but atheism isn't right either.

Yeah, the Bible has been translated and re-translated and has been altered. However, there is still plenty in there that wasn't touched and is worthwhile. Religion is the act of taking good ideas and applying rules to them, thusly negating the ideas themselves and trapping it's "believers" in a room where they can do nothing but walk in circles and do the same thing over and over again. That doesn't negate the existance of God or that there is a lot more out there that we can ever know or comprehend.

Those who are seeking the truth will ignore religion and atheists and propaganda like this, because that is merely the fabric of dreams for people who are still sleeping.

Squircifer: That's a really 'Enlightened' view you have there. Must be scary for you to know more than 90% of the world is 'Mentally Ill' in your opinion.

Buiadh: I have a hard time believing either of your comments. Because for one Sunnis and Shiites are killing one another over in Iraq and elsewhere.

Secondly, People would still war with one another over other beliefs (Political, social, economic, etc..), Even if religion never existed.

....wait..atheists made this. It's at the end.
This is what atheists THINK Christians believe.
First off:
We are sinful not because of our birth (that was a medieval ploy). We are sinful because we hate instead of love, judge instead of accept, and fear instead of taking responsibility. We are sinful for specific things (murder, war, and thievery) or ambiguous things (judgement, envy, greed). Second, we praise the life of Jesus and thank him for his sacrifice. We don't ask for the forgiveness of Jesus for killing him (cause we didn't). We ask forgiveness for our own sins.

Lastly, God does show himself to those who believe. Just not in ways you may expect.

in theology the Bible was written by men and inspired by God but what people are not realizeing is this no matter what phrase (much less book) you use if you translate it to different languages back and forth it ends up being something totaly different when it finaly gets translated back to the starting language as far as i am concerned no one has the justified right to critisize the Bible until he/she learns to read hebrew and latien ( i believe the 2 origional languages if i am not mistaken) and read the origional papers, letters, ect to see what was actualy said but then again this is just my opinion on what would make sence

Dude you mis-spelled almost every important word you wrote. Plus we Believers actually believe that the Bible is the Word of an all powerful God who has the ability to put whatever translation he wants on the shelves. God is not limited to time. If he wants us to have this version than it will be so.

O.K. for you Non-belivers. Please continue to non-believe I am not going to convince you. Jesus performed Miricles for people and the priest were mad because of the day he did it on.
Know this, God has NOT killed anyone at all since Jesus died. All the horrible things happening are not the result of God. They are of the Devil he is the one with dominion over this Earth now until the return of Christ. STOP blaming God for Evil. Its like blaming Obama for the oil spill.

You will NEVER be convinced. Christ Said thou wicked and perverse Generation. you shall seek for a sign but shall not find it.
the only sign we got was his Death on the Cross.

Ahh but who am I kidding IAB only post this propaganda because it gets us all riled up

If there were no religion we'd fight about skin colour.
If our skins were all the same we'd fight about hair colour.
If that was the same we'd fight about who's taller/shorter.
EVEN IF that was the same we'd fight about where you live now, where you used to live, what colour clothes you wear & etc.

War, bigotry, violence doesn't need an excuse, people need excuses.

(for the slow-of-mind: I'm sying War will happen whatever we do or don't do, there's no 'reason' required)

@CrakrJak

A world without religion would be a world more peaceful than it is now.

And regarding your comments on Islam, please be aware that the vast majority of Muslims are peacefull and live in harmony with their neighbours. However, as ever, the minority spoil it for the majority and adopt a more fundamental approach and the same can be said for Christians too. Take the Westboro church for one. I appreciate that these people don't go flying planes into buildings but extremism is extremism all the same.

@mandingo3519

The bible wasn't translated from Hebrew into English by Google Translate, it was translated by people who could understand both languages and thus what is lost in translation is minimal. So I don't buy that the bible would be massively different if you read an original copy.

davymid: To be honest davy, I haven't heard of Christians making 'Holy War', 'Fatwas' (Legal Edicts), or committing acts of terrorism against muslims or their mosques (At least not in the last 200 years).

You see all religion as the source of the problem, What is really the problem is backward 13th century fundamentalist islam. The other religions of the world seem to be getting along with one another, For the most part. I'm not advocating the removal of islam, I'm advocating that muslims adapt to the 21st century and live in peace.

A world without religion would not be a 'Utopia' it would be a nightmare. People advocating such a world don't have a clue about what the consequences would be to society.
