The first one's good. We do take advances in technology for granted far too much. If someone developed a working teleporter it would be a matter of days before people were complaining if the range was only 1000 miles. I had to change 4 times on the way to the USA...and there was a 10 minute queue on the third station!
But we all do it. I get irritated if a game takes 20s to load. Then I remember spending 6-7 minutes with a game squealing off tape into my ZX Spectrum...and then crashing, so I had to rewind the tape and start again, fiddling with a screwdriver to adjust the tape head alignment. It seemed reasonable at the time. When I first went online, I was using a connection with two modes - 1200/75 or 300/300. That's bits per second. Now I'm complaining if I only get a thousand times that speed. |
