I think bottled water should be banned. Good for them!

There are times when bottled water is necessary, like when there is no potable water available, but mostly bottled water is the biggest marketing scam ever.

SOOO what if your tap water isn't drinkable like mine? Soon they're gonna dictate how much toilet paper you can wipe your ass with. ***start inventing paperometer*** hehehe I'm gonna be rich and therefore exempt from these laws like the rest of the well to do.

vv What about the typical 7-Eleven set-up with a whole wall of soda and other drinks that you dispense yourself into a paper cup and then bring to the register?

Oystah: Not necessarily. Water can be obtained through taps and fountains as well. Soda can only be obtained in a plastic bottle, a glass bottle, or a paper cup. The paper cup method would make it difficult for a retailer because they would have to set an employee on refilling the machine whenever anything gets low and the glass bottle method would mean there would be a lot of shattered glass on the ground. Plastic bottles seem to be the most practical storage of soda.

Water is most practically stored in a personal refillable water bottle because then it can be procured from a tap or fountain and the plastic wouldn't be thrown out right away. On the other hand, there are some places in the world (even in the US) where you don't want to drink the tap water. I think, ultimately, the word is "moderation" where bottled water is concerned.

To be consistent, no beverages at all should be in a plastic bottle. I'm sure there are just as many plastic soda bottles and juice bottles as there are water bottles out there.

"In order to be consistent, you should oppose all laws on principle. Every law tells people what to do or not do and thus stops them making their own choice.

Do you oppose all laws on principle?"

Actually, I oppose many laws on principle, but some laws do have merit. Those laws that prevent people from infringing on the rights of others are meaningful. I'm on the fence regarding bottled water: on the one hand, it creates a lot of non-biodegradable waste, which means larger landfills. On the other, everything we do creates waste of some sort. If you want us to stop doing things that affect the environment for the worse in the long term, you would have us go back at least to Renaissance technology, if not earlier.

Good for them. There's no reason for bottled water, really... If you don't like the tap water you have, then get a Brita filter or something. You'll still save money, and you'll stop the production of more plastic. Win-win.

Great, I wish bottle water would go away. I've never bought one in my life, I also stopped using plastic bags back in 1994. Stop the plastic!

Like Moefreak, I enjoy living in a country (Sweden) where the tap water is better than most if not all bottled water.

Well, I want to say that, but recently i was in a small town for four weeks, and the water tasted like dirt.

But Stockholms water is brilliant, and sales of non-carbonated water in stores are loooooooow.

@Mimill928 and Kairobert - I'm not stubborn, nor do I enjoy degrading the environment. I simply don't like being told what to do and how to do it - I can make up my own mind to use a refillable bottle if I want to - I don't need a law telling me what to do - I am all for PSAs that encourage people to do certain things, but you should be able to make your own choice.

What do you think the bottled water companies are doing? You're just choosing which one to listen to.

<<<This is a good idea I think. I kinda cringe when I see all the plastic bottles in the trash, knowing where they'll end up. >>>

Why? They go to landfill, or they wind up in a recycling stream. So what? Would you rather we burned them so that the CO2 is released? How about we just send all the propylene and ethylene to flare in the first place instead of making useful things out of it?

I do not like having my environment degraded by someone who can't be bothered to have a reusable bottle.

I wish we could do that here. Bottle water is horrible for so many reasons. Horrible for the economy and the environment.

You are stubborn. Start listening to the information other people have to offer.
