Alcohol is the real gateway drug. When you're drunk all it takes is someone saying "Here take this" And 9 times out of 10 you're going to say "drat YEAAAAH!! I DON'T GIVE A drat!!!" and just go with it. |

Only two types of people call pot a gateway drug: school counselors that have never smoked it and NarcAnon meeting leaders that can't bring enough people into their meetings to pay for their member's coffee consumption.
Sure, pot's a drug...but a gateway drug? That's just dumb. |

yeah, it's not a gatway drug to anything, i would have tried acid even if i never smoked pot!!! haha people are predisposed to do whatever the hell they want, regardless. |

Please be careful! I have been a substance abuse and corrections counselor for many years and cannabis is a very nasty drug. The active ingredient, THC, is stored in body fat and can take as long as a month for the body to remove after use is stopped. It impairs the ability for brain and other body cells to communicate and function normally. As a result, reaction times and judgment are impaired, often for quite a while. It also affects the genetic material in body cells that can lead to birth defects and diseases such as cancer. The body's immune system is suppressed and regular, long-term use can result in lack of motivation. Cannabis can introduce the user to other drugs and often the criminal subculture. Please check the RELIABLE medical information about it. Please remain drug-free. If you need alcohol or other drugs to get through the day, to socialize or to feel good about yourself, talk to somebody about it. Attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings to get the real story. |

i've been smoking pot for... carry the 2... 9 years. though it was the first "drug" i ever tried, it did not leave me any more or less suseptable to use any of the other drugs i've tried. i mean come on, what 13 year old kid is gonna say no when ur gf shows up and says "hey, wanna get high and drat?" hahaha, hell yea! |

Marijuana is most definitely NOT a "gateway drug" in my experience. I've been smoking Marijuana for almost 25 years and I have never once used any other drug. gateway drug my a$$! Marijuana is a wonderful peaceful gift from God in my opinion. |

Marijuana being a gateway drug is crap I agree, more likely the same type of person who would trip on acid or shoot up heroin isn't going to care about smoking pot, but the kind of person who is going to smoke pot isn't necessarily ok with dropping acid.
I've smoked pot for 8 years and have never had the slightest interest in any other drug (other than alcohol, but that doesn't count in this context). I've had opportunities to do coke, acid, shrooms, and numerous pills, and there is no hesitation before I say no thanks. Just not my thing. And if I had to choose between alcohol and pot, I would choose pot.
How many meat heads get drunk and want to get into a fight. How many pot heads get stoned and want to do anything more than eat something sweet. |

Legalize it. I know many, many people who do weed. It has destroyed none of their lives. Even alcohol, which is legal, can easily ruin someone's life. The only people for whom this can qualify as a gateway drug is those who have no happiness in their life and find all their happiness in drugs. I hope that in the future, smoking marijuana with your friends will be just like drinking at the bar. Something you do to wind down after a hard day or just something to do when you're hanging out. Again, legalize |

A common substance is outlawed.
A significant portion of the population still wantt it.
It's easy to get.
A crime syndicate forms that controls quality and price.
This crime syndicate jacks up prices which leads to crime to get money to pay for it.
Oh..... wait.. That was ALCOHOL in the 1920's.
Haven't learned very much since then, have we.

Here's an interesting fact. People often call cannabis a gateway drug but did you know that nearly 100% of drug users actually admit to using N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetamide before moving on to harder drugs.
Here's another interesting fact. In a study carried out by the Scientific Drugs Advisory Council in England, alcohol, tobacco and cannabis all scored higher in terms of overall risk of harm than MDMA (Ecstasy). |
