Well assuming a mermaid is still mammalian in nature(has mammary glands, apparently has lungs, warm blooded. has hair.) then the reproductive system will still be relatively similar, despite outward appearance. What's more, since it is an aquatic mammal, an the normal procedure for land mammals are ineffective in water, there will be the added bonus of a system where the muscles in the genitals are used to massage the male instead of normal pumping (as is the case with dolphins, porpoises, etc.)
TL;DR Normal mermaid would still be a better choice because the reproductive system will at least still be mammalian. |

Well since we're talking mermaids here... I'm a surgeon and I'd just take both and combine the two to give her the surgery I *cough*, I mean SHE, deserves. Then we could do it in every position in existence AND have roasted fish for weeks!
