Not to mention, if we didn't argue over what our founding fathers did, we'd have no purpose for the Supreme Court or the system of checks and balances for that matter. Where no matter the subject there is always a horde of "experts" ready to explain to everyone why the picture or video they just laughed at wasn't funny, at least not when you take into account the plethora of at this point completely unrelated "facts" which they will relate to as if they had a phd in pointless trivia. Siyanor: It appears I will have to put this in simple terms and hope you understand. Firstly, to pretend that the economic and political backdrop (taxation, Proclamation of 1763, etc) of the Colonies is irrelevent to the origins of the rebellion of those colonies is a statement of profound ignorance. Secondly, AN ACT OF REBELLION IS NOT THE SAME THING AS THE CAUSE OF THAT REBELLION. This is a concept I would expect a small child to grasp. The cause has to be traced to the underlying motivations and attitudes of both sides. Specifically, the desire of the people of Virginia or Pennsylvania to be treated the same as those from Northumbria or Cornwall with the same representation in the House of Commons and the refusal of the Home Government to allow it. The Boston Tea party was merely one manifestation of defiance that began with peaceful dissent and ended in war, it was the cause of nothing. |

xiquiripat, actually, your comment provides nothing, because it is ENTIRELY IRRELEVANT TO THE DISCUSSION, which was THE CAUSE OF COLONIAL REBELLION, not the economic outcome of the French and Indian War.
The cause of colonial rebellion, as tenty stated, is COLONIALS THROWING OUT TEA BECAUSE IT WAS FAR BELOW NORMAL PRICE. Tenty did not state the reason for that, but it was belief that the tea was poisoned, as EVERYONE who has ever taken a US history class should know.

This post makes me want to reach into this screen and punch that "getting it all wrong" Idiot in the Boston Redsox hat right square in the mouth.
Then I look down at the comments to see if there is any hope in this next generation.
I want to give ya'll the old dude lecture. I know it will be lost on most of you. So I wont.
However, the one thing you knuckleheads care about is the internet.
Senator Joe Liberman of Conn is currently trying to make it very easy for the Government to shut down and or restrict your internet.
There is alot of garbage like this in all 4 major english speaking countrys. US/UK/Canada?Australia.
There is very little real differances in how all four of these countries go about their daily lives.
Forget America vs Enland, The DI is about Liberty vs Tyranny. If you 18+'s don't argue for Liberty you will LOSE YOUR FREEDOM.

The French and British were skirmishing in the Ohio valley and a French expedition had forced out several British merchants. And as for the "propaganda" it must have been pretty damn good considering that William Pitt, the leading man of the British Empire, thought the Americans were in the right. Lincoln never abolished slavery. He said that in all states rebelling, slaves should be set free. He had absolutely no power over the rebelling states. He wanted to keep the border states in the Union. |
