To me the worst part of having a period isn't even the pain, its worrying. They aren't regular, so if you're even within 2 weeks of when you might get it, you have to have tampons or pads with you. This especially sucks if you're not the type to carry a purse around. I hate how I can't just leave, I have to make sure I can get to them, just in case. Ugh.
And everyone portrays menstruation as debilitating cramps near your bladder or something. While I've experienced this occasionally, to me its like a constant pushing ache on the two places on my back were my ovaries are, like tiny fists are punching them... and I've never heard any one speak of this.
